Victorian Charm

I’ve always been smitten with Victorian Homes and their grandeur.  From the high ceilings, wide verandas, to the ornate details, these homes always seem to capture my attention.  It was after watching Gone with the Wind for the first time, is when I encountered my first fantasy of living in an old Victorian home.  South Carolina has many quaint towns and  in them is where you’ll find some of the Victorian-era homes nestled in the neighborhoods.  As you travel through them, you tend to get mesmerized by the charming looks of these southern comfort homes.  Such is the historic town of Chester.  Chester is where my dear friend Elizabeth, Inn Keeper of the Inn Upon Moon River Bed&Breakfast resides and it is through Elizabeth that I was fortunate enough to meet another wonderful new friend name Jan, and she and her husband Terry are added to my list of the sweetest people I’ve met since living in the south.  Their friendly personalities blended with their zest for life really makes being in their presence so pleasurable. They welcomed me into their lovely Victorian home with open arms and a glass of Prosecco.  After having a few glasses, talking and laughing – it was like we were long time friends.  After several visits to their lovely home, I decided to ask “can I share your home with my readers” and when she said “Sure” I got excited, grabbed my camera and began my story.  So, grab your tea and croissant, and come join me because I’d like to invite you into their exquisite “painted Lady” Victorian Home.

The first stunning  sight is the most beautiful crystal laden chandelier mounted against her metallic gold ceiling.  This is her crown jewel of the home – which has been with her in every home she’s lived (and I see why!!!)

The way it glistens in the light and the faceted colors that are reflected makes it so glamorous.  Reminds me of something you’d see in “Gone With the Wind”

As you see, this lovely home was decorated to reflect the natural charm and keeping with the grandeur of the home.  I’m sure this is making you want to see more, and there is plenty more to see.

So to give you an eye candy break from this overdose of sweetness, I’ll be sharing the rest of the tour in three different posts.  I can’t wait to show you more of the details and love they put into restoring and decorating their home.   They scoured several thrift stores, antique shops, estate sales and auctions to find the right pieces to accent the home.   Looking at all the beautiful furniture, art work, collectibles and accent pieces, one would think it’s been handed down to them in the family.

Next up will be the kitchen, parlor and study… so tune in for the next episode of the charming Victorian treat.

Until next time – enjoy thrifting your house into a home.

Friday Feature

Hey everyone, it’s been a while since I’ve featured someone, and I apologize for that.  This past month I had a minor setback, but that’s over and now it’s time for me to get back on track.  I’m excited to introduce today’s Friday feature.  A few months ago I joined a Facebook group called The Thrifting Divas.  It’s a wonderful group of ladies who enjoy thrifting and showing off their “goodies”.  It’s mainly focused around fashion, however quite a few people also showcase their homes decorated with items they get while thrifting.  It was through that group I came across thrifting diva, Knetta Lilly, when she featured her beautiful dining room.  Look at her beautiful space:

My mouth dropped when I saw it and to learn she used thrifted items sweetened the whole look.  She stated the table, banquette seating, floor vases, mirrored buffet and lamps were all sourced from Craigslist.  She’s a great example if you look for items, and be patient- you’ll find them without spending a fortune.

Knetta has a passion for home decor, and use thrifted items to decorate her home and clients homes.  She feels you don’t have to be super rich to have a beautiful home and caters to all different budgets.   Here are few of her designs: She created this living room, by using sources like Craigslist and OfferUp.  The sofa, glass coffee table, round rug and Wingback acrylic chairs were all sourced from those sites.

For the bedroom, the thrifted items featured here are the curtain panels and ottoman (which is absolutely stunning).

She thrifted the mirror, console table and artificial tree to design this dramatic foyer featured here.

image

In this cozy quaint sitting area she thrifted the mirrors, table, pillows, chairs and the rug was sale item she snagged for $20.00 (kudos to her!!)

image

For a client she designed this dining area by hitting Craigslist for the table, buffet, and light fixture (I’ve got to get active with that site-do any of you use it?)

Last but not least, I have to show you one more fabulous room she created for another client

image

To create this swanky pad, she hit a hotel liquidation store and scooped the pin striped chairs and ottoman.  She scored again on Craigslist with the bar and glass top table.  For the bar she used her special touch by staining it black and added the marble top for a whole new look.  The fancy red mirror was silver and she painted it for a pop of color.  She finished the look with custom pillows she made and this room was finished with one happy client.   So you see why I was so excited about today’s feature.  There’s a lot of excitement and enthusiasm amongst home decorators in this group and now Knetta has created her own FB Group Cents Savvy Home.   Knetta Lilly, who is the owner and Principal Designer for K Lilly Interiors, LLC., a residential interior decorating firm in Atlanta, Georgia.  Her site was created to showcase low – priced and second-hand home decor furnishings and accessories that she have sourced in and around Atlanta. Most of these furnishings have been sourced from Craigslist, OfferUp, garage sales and/or thrift stores. She, too, believes your home can look high-end without the expensive price tag. The site allows for its members to post home decor furnishings and accessories that they find and/or post rooms that have been designed with thrifted decor.  So, come join and  “Let’s Have Fun with Cents Savvy Home Decor!”

I’ll look to see you there!  Until next time – happy hunting! Smooches?

Friday Feature

Woohooo!! It’s Friday, I’m off the 9-5 grind and I’m happy…it’s been quite a week for me so I really need this weekend to re-group.  Well today I’m going to introduce you to the artist behind the beautiful Head Planter I posted a couple days ago.  If you missed it – click here.  Cynthia Edwards is a self-taught crafter who had a vision and went for it.  Two years ago she made her first head planter by cutting a hole in a doll’s head and giving it a faux metal painting.   She knew she wanted to take her creation to a higher level and in March 2014 she began making her new line of  head planters.  Her motivation was: first  she loves head planters and second: she wanted more of them. She lucked up and saw an ad for a company going out of business and had lots of items listed.  She decided to go and low and behold they had mannequin heads, although, they were not mentioned as being for sale, she immediately envisioned them as head planters.  So with her vision and belief that people would love them, along with her hubby’s blessing they contacted the owner and settled on a price – and the rest is history. She got all the other supplies needed on a wing and a prayer (Lol – which I’m sure we’ve all been down that road) and started making them and that’s how her little business was born.

Cynthia says her inspiration varies and could come from a suggestion, a color , plant, a flower, or even an animal she sees.  She also says  there are times when she’s working on a piece, a thought will come to her on how it should look, and her imagination simply takes control.  But in the end, the head tells her yes or no, sometimes they even seem to have their own ideas and she just goes with the flow.  Here are some of her latest creations..

This fiery creation is called “Flame”

This burgundy beauty is called “Pothos”

The exotic beauty here is “Nerida”

The copper beauty is “Dulcina”

She’s called “Queen of Hearts”  (and I see why)

(this is an oopsy… I don’t have her name)

Meet “Queen Bee”  🙂

This lovely lady is “Alvara”

Madame butterfly is called “Belle of the Ball”

This majestic lady is called “Honey”

and saving the best for last is “Ms. Laroux Lagniappe”

When she’s not in her shop creating these beauties,  she loves spending time with her family, gardening, being online with her gardening club, beading, painting other forms of art, making furniture and reading.  In other words – this is one very busy lady!! For sure!! She shows her work on gardening sites that she’s in and they have been selling by word of mouth. If you’re interested in ordering one, she’d love to hear from you.   You can find her on Facebook or email her at: caesheadplanters@yahoo.com

I truly hope you enjoyed meeting these lovely ladies and invite one into your home.. Until next time.. I hope you all have a Fabulous weekend!!   Smooches

Friday Feature

I get excited when I find another blogger who I just love what they do.  Are you that way too?  That’s why I decided to do Friday Features on the blog once or twice a month.  I’m not one to constantly change decor, but I love when I see what others do, so I live vicariously watching their site.  My first feature is with Nicole over at DesignItVintage.  Nicole, like me, love vintage items and seeing them restored or refinished. What caught my eye on her site was her foyer makeover.  My mouth dropped when I saw and read what she did .  She took her foyer from this;
