Friday Finds

The week has come to an end and so has summer.. but your thrifty girl’s finds are still going.  Me & Mom went thrifting in Columbia, SC at the Palmetto Thrift Store and here’s what I found during our journey:

A perfectly good leather club chair.. Price tag $35.00  – what a bargain  (if only I had room in the truck to bring it home – smh)

In the corner I  spotted this really nice mid-century lamp.. The teardrop base mixes perfect with the barrel shade (of course I would work a little paint magic on it.. )  However, they were asking $30.00 for it..  hmmmm… I’ll wait on that…

I also saw this kitchen chair, which I loved….Can you imagine how great it would look with new fabric!!  I wish they had three more..  drats!!  Do you see the price tag ????  Yes – $8.00

Unfortunately none of those came home with me.. but what did come home with me were these wonderful barstools!  We went to the grand opening of the new Salvation Army in Chester, SC and of course lady luck was with me…

They were $40.00 for the pair.. That was a big deal.. considering they still had the original store’s ticket price of $99.99 each stapled under the seat.   Although they came home with me but they left the next day to head to their new home..because weren’t for me.. They are for my son, Jamil’s place.. He told me he wanted some barstools and I told him be patient.. I’ll find some…  and so I did!!   Like I always say.. Patience is a virtue.. It pays to wait …  Have you all gotten lucky lately??  If so , please share…  I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and I’ll see you Monday with a new Makeover.    Tah-tah!!!

$2.00 Tuesday #12

Hi everyone – I hope you all enjoyed your Labor Day holiday.  As they say, it’s a bid to say farewell to summer, although the weather here in South Carolina says summer doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere (which makes me happy).

Today’s episode of $2.00 Tuesday  item was shared with me by my friend Elizabeth Claytor of the beautiful Inn Upon Moon River Plantation Bed & Breakfast.  Elizabeth, like myself loves to hunt for thrifty finds.  You can read about her other fab finds here.    Just in time for Fall – she lucked up on this hand-embroidered vintage table linen set at her local Salvation Army in Chester.  They had a big grand opening last week and I was there.  I, too, lucked up with a fab find which I’ll post about on Friday’s Fab Finds.

The set includes the rectangular tablecloth with 6 matching napkins.   Vintage embroidered linen is always a must to have somewhere stashed in your collectibles.   The hand sewn details are beautiful and I’ve always admired the details taken to create these lovely items.

See how the multi-color thread is used to highlight the flowers and leaves to add the right amount of fall essence to the cloth.

Can you imagine – all this handwork-  sold for $2.00..Wow…The crispness of this freshly washed, starched and ironed vintage linen adds the perfect touch to any Fall table setting.  Kudos to Elizabeth on her fab $2.00 Tuesday find.   Remember, if you come across a fantastic item for $2.00, by all means do share.  I’d love to hear about it.   You can also post it on Instagram using hashtag #2dollartuesdayfinds or  #urthriftygirlfinds.   Here’s wishing you an enjoyable week ahead.. Take care and as always “VivaLaVintage!!”

Smooches..

not For the Birds Cage

Hello Everyone –  Here’s hoping all is well with you.. Your thrifty girl has been piddling along with this dining room make-over project.    I really opened Pandora’s box with this one.  My first decision was to simply paint the set – which I did.. I grew tired of the black legs and wanted to change them up a bit.   Here’s a sneak peek at the progress.. I really love the new color.. (I have to admit – I was verrrrrry nervous).. chuckles.. The color used is by Krylon called Metallic nickel.  The paint has a smooth glittery finish and really makes the set look richer.

Well???  What’s your thoughts..

Up next – Fabric.. I will keep you posted.  I had to break away from this mind boggling project, so, I updated another tray.    Remember these.. well this is the third one.  I decided to use it in the family room.

Here is the new look:

It really adds color to the coffee table and blends much better than the cranberry red

Okay –  let’s move on to the birdcage.   If you can remember a few weeks back – I picked up this vintage birdcage for $13.00 at a thrift store/yardsale.

When I spotted it I knew exactly what I was going to use it for.  You know I like to change things up a bit and have multi-functional pieces.   First up.. a new look.   I used Rustoleum Glossy White and Metallic Gold spray paints to freshen it up. .. I’m so happy with it.

Can you say ahhhhhhh!!! with me… 🙂

The wall paper samples… well —- they came in handy again.  I used a gorgeous piece that had tree branches and a few birds (for nostalgia purposes) to line the bottom tray.

Guess what I’m using it for..

Yup… towel storage..  if you can remember I once used a planter for this bath,

I’ve been a  naughty girl by buying more plants so it went back to being a plant stand.  You know something,  I think the bird cage looks even better as my towel holder.

This bird did not fly over the coo-coo’s nest..  🙂  ..  no sireee..  this bird’s thoughts can’t be caged in …

Do you think I’ve gone Coo-coo… ???

If not – welcome to my world of un-caged thoughts.  Have you used a piece for unconventional purposes lately?  If so, do share.

I’m off to fabric hunting –  Wish me Luck!   Have a great day

No More Lonely Table

Good afternoon lovies..!!  I hope you had a fan-tabulous weekend.  The weather was perfect here in SC and I visited my friend Elizabeth in Chester.   We decided to hit the indoor flea market just to see what we’ll find.  It’s so funny because on our way we saw this for sale.  Perfect Condition…what a beaut! (except the fabric -not my taste)

Wow!  The asking price  $125.00 was a steal of a deal.   I wish I had room for it or had a client who needs one – oh well..  🙂    There’s so many hidden jewels of treasure shopping here, where you’ll find friendly folks happy to sell you their goods.   We made it to the market and  here are some of the other goodies I came across.  This pair of rattan end tables was just $30.00 – recently I’ve acquired a liking of rattan.  I just wish I had the space for them because I would have scooped them up.

I saw this dresser which was also in great condition.  It was only $75.00 – I may have to come back for this, because I really like it.  I could switch out the dresser in the spare bedroom (which I’ve been wanting to do).  I have a painting project I’ve been wanting to do and it would look perfect for this dresser.

I also saw this – I’ll have to see if my son likes this.. I think it would be perfect for his living room area as a tv stand.  It was $65.00

But what caught my eye was a pair of rattan chairs.  I’ve been looking for a pair to go with a table I had.  They were tucked behind a sofa.  I pulled them out and they were perfect.  I got them for $25.00.  The gentleman quoted $30.00 and I was happy to pay $30.00 but he said give me $25.00 – so cool.. $25.00 it’ll be.. Loaded them on the truck

now the table isn’t lonely anymore and now the hub and I can have dinner on the deck

I have to paint the table to match the chairs.  But all in all – I’m very pleased with my weekend find

Later on that day – the hubby and I capped our evening off at – guess where????? —    The Drive-In Movies..

How was your weekend.. Did you find any goodies?   I’d love to hear about it.   Have a wonderful week!!

Friday Finds #4

Ok guys, you know your Thrifty Girl comes across some GREAT bargains.   I have to tell you … this week’s find by far is probably the greatest ever!!  (well except for the vanity mom found) but my insides were screaming with joy.  Goodwill is the BOMB!!  I’m officially hooked..  Ok.. I never – ever look at the electronics they have.. I always figure they’re broken – cheap- and a waste of time.  Well, as I walked past that section, from the corner of my eyes – it’s like the thrift angel spoke to me and whispered in my ear…”LOOK UP”  So I looked.. and guess what I found —–  OMG!!  KLIPSCH Box Speakers  — I ran through that store to get a cart.. raced back and scooped those bad boys up.. I was so excited I almost forgot to look at the rest of the stuff.  All I was thinking – please God let them work-

Guess how much these $140.00 a piece  speakers were ——– $5.75 ea ———–

If any of you are familiar with electronic name brands – you know Klipsch is pretty much top of the line – near Bose.  If not read about them here.   I asked the cashier if they were refundable if they didn’t work.  She said yes  – I had 24 hrs..  The hour drive home seemed like 2 hours – I was so excited to get them home.   I removed the cover and hoped the woofers were not damaged.. and look – nope..So I’m saying who in the world would donate Klipsch speakers.. they must be blown.

I hooked them up to my kitchen stereo and THEY WORK!!!!!!!   Ahhhhhhhh!!! My stereo never sound better.  All I can say is “Thank You Thrift Angel” .  Call me Snoopy – because this has been me ever since I found them..  doing happy dances.  🙂

I feel like I should have “S” on my chest  for “SuperShopper”

I hope you all have a wonderful – happy dance weekend..  Smooches!
