Pretty Single

Being single doesn’t have to be boring or lonely.  At least that’s how I feel about lamps.  Actually, all round my home are single lamps (except in the bedrooms).  I’m one who doesn’t mind letting a single lamp shine on its own.  When I spotted this chinoiserie famille lamp at a thrift store I thought it was definitely worth getting, not to mention it was only $6.56.  Can’t beat that right????

Well, truth be told, although I was drawn to the style of the lamp, problem was I had no idea where I was going to put it.   This corner in my dining room usually housed a plant, but while the plant was outside catching rays , this corner looked a little bland.  So I decided to pull the lamp out of hiding.

These hand-painted lamps have a strong following by decorators who choose to decorate with chinoiserie styles. .  In fact, they have held its value over the years.  This same lamp in noir have an asking price of $300.00/pr. with other pieces on the rise

To get inspired and to see more stylish rooms with single lamps – visit one of Charlotte’s top designers Arienne Bethea of DressingRoomsInterior.  She created an entire Pinterest board to really make you want to head out and purchase that single lamp that’s been haunting you.  Are you a single lamp lover?  If not would you take a chance and get the single lady?  Well if so, happy hunting while you thrift your house into a home!

Sincerely

  1. Jamala, While I do love a pair of lamps, I have scored many great “singles” that I cherished. You seem to have found a great single with this beauty. I have a similar tobacco leaf print single that I’m waiting for just the right spot in my house to use it in.

    • Hey there Linda!! Oh wow! I know yours is a beaut – I can’t wait to see it.. Please hurry and find it’s spot in your beautiful home so I can see it! Hope all is well and thanks for reading

  2. As always, Jamala, you have the perfect eye for choosing what is good. That is the interior decorator within you. Not only is the lamp a quality piece, but also a classic. I don’t think I’ve ever had matching lamps so I’m with you.

    • Ginene!! Hey there.. thanks lady for reading.. Yea I know trying to find the mate would be a needle in a haystack but imagine the fun I’ll have looking.. Thank you for the wonderful compliment

    • I keep trying Alycia.. I carted this lamp around the store with me for about 1/2 hr and was almost ready to put it back then i just said “F” it.. it’s coming home with me.. lol.. glad I did.. I totally agree with that it’s a great exercise to blend items.. so often some put themselves in a box of matchy-ness and it doesn’t broaden their style. Having a single lamp is taking a small step into the different direction.

  3. Jamala,
What a pretty lamp! It looks great in your decor. The super low price makes it even more attractive. Singles do rule. It took many estate sales to find a pair of 2nd hand lamps for our bedroom. Anyway, thanks for insight into the value of the chinoiserie style.

    • Hi Ruth! Thank you for the compliment and reading. I’m glad you found your mate and I’m sure throughout the search you’ve found other goodies along the way. You’re welcome – about the chinoiserie info – anytime.
