ORC – Week – 6

Week 1     Week 2      Week 3     Week4     Week 5

Things are winding down and we’re at week 6 with only two weeks left for the reveal of the One Room Challenge with Better Homes and Garden.  This week’s update I’m sharing the newly reupholstered chairs and happy to report they are finally finished.   This was easy once I lined up the pattern to see how I wanted to capture the look for each chair.

I had fabric left over and I hated to throw it away, so I decided to make napkins.  I wanted the frayed edge style and to create that look, I cut each napkin 16×16 (try to make straight cuts) and then snipped a little piece of the corner and started pulling at the thread.  This was real easy ( just time consuming) but after pulling several strings this is how the frayed edge looks.  Almost looks like a fringe – right?  You can go as high as you like for your style.. it’s to your liking.

I couldn’t figure what I’d be storing in the cart drawer and now I know.. my napkins and rings.  I have a few other stylish napkins, so I’ll keep them all in here for easy access.  Side note:  The Chez Josephine napkins are my never-to-use keepsakes I got from a favorite restaurant in New York, Chez Josephine.  It was opened by one of Josephine Baker’s son, Jean-Claude as a tribute to her. Believe it or not, they were the hand towels in the bathroom and I immediately fell in love with them.  They were like a fabric paper, so plush, and I figure since they’re being used and thrown away, 6 unused towels wouldn’t hurt taking and keeping for myself (sorry -not sorry) .. I haven’t been back in 20 years, but I truly enjoyed dining there.  So moving along.. see the afro-chinoiserie vibe..

(this cart was meant to be for me).  The vibrant peacock napkins were ordered online from this site.  Unfortunately those are no longer available, but there’s several others available.

I found this cute 1962 vintage Inarco planter for $1.00 to add in here for another piece of chinoiserie element (just a hint) and used a succulent in it.

A while ago I bought this fish bowl for $1.00 and thought it would make a cute planter.   Back when I did the faux ceramic planters, I painted this fish bowl with black paint to create an afro-boho type planter – glad I did, because I’ll be using it in this space as well.

Now that the hard part is over, I hung the curtains and I love them in this room.  I can’t get over the big difference they made.  I used to have a sheer hanging between the panels, but opted out of using it again to just let all the light come in (because of the darkness of the room).  You can catch a peek of them in this picture and see how they flow with the chair fabric.

Next item on the to-do list is hang the chandelier.  I’ve been patiently waiting for my husband, but my patience is running thin.. (so if you hear any yelling – you’ll know I blew my top) lol.. (my son spoiled me 🙁

A part of me want to keep what’s up there, but for some reason, I want to see crystals dangling.. and the art deco one just seems to speak to me.  I hope I fall in love with it or I’m doomed because I know my husband will strangle me lol).

Also, I’ll shine the floors (again) shop my home some more to see what I can move in here and get ready to style for pictures.  Don’t forget to hop over to the ORC site and view all the designers and guest participants to see how they’re coming along,  It’s always so inspiring to see the many talented designers, decorators, diyers doing their thing.  It helps knowing you’re not alone tackling a project, so having this platform gives you that push).  Well CIAO for now and I’ll see you next week with one more update!

  1. Hush up with your napkin-creating self!!! That fabric!!!!!! That FABRIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gimme!!!😁 I LOVE what you’ve done to those chairs!!!!!!! You couldn’t have found a more perfect fabric if you tried! I just know you are ready for this challenge to be over! Your husband, too, no doubt.🤣 But you are really making great strides! Tell your husband all the other wives are ganging up on him and (sweetly, of course!😉) demanding he get that chandelier hung!🤣🤣🤣 That restaurant wasn’t missing a doggone thing. I’ve collected (yes, that’s my preferred word for it!) interesting or nice napkins and paper towels for years, too. They should be flattered that we like their taste enough to add theirs to our “collection”!!!🤣🤣🤣

Hang in there! Only 2 weeks to go!!!!!!!!

  2. Just clicked your link for Josephines. That place is a decorating inspiration as well, and the food looks good too! I have heard of JB, but didn’t know much about her. What a fascinating life she led.

  3. I love all the fabric! What a good idea to use the rest for napkins. With the cool pattern on the drapes, I am looking forward to the big reveal.
