Friday Finds
The week has come to an end and so has summer.. but your thrifty girl’s finds are still going. Me & Mom went thrifting in Columbia, SC at the Palmetto Thrift Store and here’s what I found during our journey:
A perfectly good leather club chair.. Price tag $35.00 – what a bargain (if only I had room in the truck to bring it home – smh)
In the corner I spotted this really nice mid-century lamp.. The teardrop base mixes perfect with the barrel shade (of course I would work a little paint magic on it.. ) However, they were asking $30.00 for it.. hmmmm… I’ll wait on that…
I also saw this kitchen chair, which I loved….Can you imagine how great it would look with new fabric!! I wish they had three more.. drats!! Do you see the price tag ???? Yes – $8.00
Unfortunately none of those came home with me.. but what did come home with me were these wonderful barstools! We went to the grand opening of the new Salvation Army in Chester, SC and of course lady luck was with me…
They were $40.00 for the pair.. That was a big deal.. considering they still had the original store’s ticket price of $99.99 each stapled under the seat. Although they came home with me but they left the next day to head to their new home..because weren’t for me.. They are for my son, Jamil’s place.. He told me he wanted some barstools and I told him be patient.. I’ll find some… and so I did!! Like I always say.. Patience is a virtue.. It pays to wait … Have you all gotten lucky lately?? $2.00 Tuesday
Good afternoon everyone! It’s your thrifty girl and it’s Tuesday. I’m here to show you that I’ve struck again and lucked up with a $2.00 find. Today’s lucky purchase was from The Lighthouse, a local thrift shop in our town that’s ran by volunteers. I took a much needed break from my dining room makeover. I must say it’s coming along quite nicely and I look forward to showing it to you soon.
Today’s $2.00 item was this lovely vintage Samsonite suitcase.
They had them tucked all the way in the back and my keen thrifty eyes spotted them. The suitcase was $2.00!! I couldn’t believe it. On top of that.. I found the matching train case for $1.00. Wow!!! I love vintage suitcases. The train cases are so sturdy and have plenty room for all our toiletries. I opened up the suitcase and it was never used..OMG!! I couldn’t believe how clean and pristine it was.. and the best part – no smell!!!!
Do you see how clean this is… wow…
Even the little side pouch was in perfect condition. Realizing how bad the airplane crew damages luggage, I began using vintage ones because if they’re damaged I wouldn’t loose too much money on expensive luggage.
The train case was slightly used.. but nothing that a little awesome can’t clean
I like the fact they have my first initial (too bad not the W but I’ll look for a sticker to fix that.
If only I could luck up with a plane ticket then I’ll be good to go 🙂

Monday Makeover
Good morning all! I hope you had a lovely weekend. Today’s makeover is a DIY Tray Makeover.. I’ve had these trays for years, stored away and not being used. After seeing all the lovely trays – I decided to pull them out and give them a makeover. This project cost me Zero dollars because I already had the items around the house. Time to put them to use with new looks. I have four of them but this weekend I worked on two.
I had this wallpaper sample book stored away as well. As an fyi.. no I didn’t sell wallpaper..chuckles.. but a friend gave it to me and naturally I took it..(they were such pretty samples) kinda figured they’d come in handy one day..
Spray paint to change the color…
Used modge podge to glue it down
Here’s the a new look for tray #1
This has definitely softened the look of the tray
Tray #2 has become a desk tray (of course I had to use the leopard print)
A quick spray of gold metallic paint to create the gold accessories
I’m pleased with the new looks and look forward to completing the other two! BTW – If any of you care to make over a tray – let me know – I’ve got plenty of paper and would love to share it with you.
