$2.00 TUESDAY

Knock, knock.. it’s me dropping in your mailbox….I know it’s been a while since you’ve heard from me.  Honestly speaking, I just don’t understand how time is flying so fast.  It clearly does not feel like a month has passed since my last post.. but when I checked the date.. yup, it’s been a few days over a month.  But.. anyhoo… I hope you all are doing very well and have enjoyed your Summer.  It seems like yesterday I was telling you about the Yard Sale.  As for me, so far all has been good and I did manage to slip away on a girls trip for a few days with my sister by blood and my sister by chance.  We headed to New Orleans to take in some cultural vibes.

Two years ago we went for the Satchmo Festival and we went again for it.. and enjoyed every last bit of it… I have to admit, this is becoming a favorite spot and can’t wait to go again.  I normally don’t travel with my “good shades” because I notoriously lose them, so this trip I rocked a pair of the vintage shades I picked up for $2.00 (yea, I think I’m cute..heeeheeeheee).  Not bad right..

After our return home it was time for me to go back to the fabric store to get more fabric for my dining chairs.  I finally decided on a fabric and recovered the chairs, however, I made a serious boo-boo… I under-estimated the fabric and ran out.  So my chairs have been looking like this.  (side note:  I’m considering painting these chairs – again- they seem to blend into the walls to me.. I’m thinking either a jewel tone/navy blue or maybe gold .. what’s your thoughts?)

Ok, so moving along.. the fabric store was having a fantastic sale (I’m afraid to think she’s going out of business.. that would be awful).. but the all the fringe was $.50 a yard, the tassels were $1.00 and the flat fold fabrics were $2.00 a yard.   Even the bullion fringe was $.50 (can you imagine!!)  A sale this good I had to share… made a few phone calls and got orders for a few friends (thank God for technology)

This is like a designer/decorator’s dream sale!  Imagine the possibilities of all the items you could add fringe to, use the tassels on or even have reupholstered.  That day my head was swimming!!  Fabric, and Fringe and Tassels Oh My!!!

Ok.. I won’t show all the goodies but here’s a peek at some of the fabrics I purchased for $2.00 a yard.  The colorful one is outdoor Sunbrella fabric.. and yes!! $2.00

These orange pom-poms.. yup.. came home with me..

and most definitely these natural element looking tassels came home.

So what did I do with the items you might ask.. Well the green fabric will become curtain panels for our family room and the tassels, I just kind of used them as accents:  Like this raffia basket..

I used the big single tassel – just by adding the tassel, it gave the basket more appeal.  However, if/when I find a larger basket.. it’ll probably land on there, but I will go back and get more tassel  fringe to add to some baskets I have.

While in New Orleans I bought an African carry basket – so I accented the hand-basket with the pom-pom tassel.

I used the matching pebble stone tassels on the pair of wall scones in the Living Room – just so I could use them instead of having them sit in a bag.  I’m still up in the air about the look but.. for now – I’m happy with them there.

I found this cute little bike shape bamboo planter

Just a simple little touch to this corner

I admit, I’m a sucker for cute little vases.. and this Japanese hand-painted vase caught my eye and yes, it was $2.00

I use them mostly for plant clippings but this one is being used for my incense.  A vendor in New Orleans was selling 100 for $5.00 (excellent price) and I love having them out because the entire room is fragrant while displayed in the vase.

I know $2.00 isn’t much but I’m always amazed at what I find to decorate my home with.  Let’s face it, you can’t find items this exceptional at the Dollar store without them looking “cheap”.  When I spend so little on an item, I feel comfortable knowing that if I get bored with looking at it, I won’t lose much if I donate it and not to mention if I choose to sell it, at least I’m sure, I’ll get my money back.  Either way, I’m choosing to be happy with the results.  Have you all found any goodies for $2.00 lately?  If so, please share and don’t forget to hashtag #lifestyleofthethriftandfamous for a feature.  As always, I leave you with Happy hunting while you thrift your house into a home!

  3. I like the tassel on the basket and pom poms on the tote. Very clever! My two tassels come from estate sales. One hangs from the key on our grandfather clock. They’re all so different and fun to use.

Your dining room looks great with those unique silver chairs. I don’t remember seeing anything similar. But I understand the desire to change things up. Looking forward to seeing what you do!

  4. Yes, Kim you do a beautiful job!🤗I love it! I need more fabric for my living room and den area. Keep me posted of more upcoming 50% sales😁😍
