Styling Your Music Player

I remember when I bought a new turntable back in 2008 and was thrilled.  My old one needed a new needle and finding one was a bummer.  I actually have had my stereo system from the 80’s (with a few upgraded pieces over the years – but my receiver and equalizer were from the stereo my husband (back then boyfriend) bought me for my 21st birthday.  Over the years, I’ve had to upgrade the cd player, tape deck (yes dual), amplifier and speakers, but all in all, it’s a great system.  My sons said to me – really mom- vinyl has played out… well, how wrong they were.. I told them vinyl will never play out.  There’s nothing like the sound of vinyl playing on a cool stereo system, sitting back and reminiscing on those days.  You feel me on this?  I see all kinds of inspiration on styling the TV in your home but finding that inspiration for your stereo is pretty bleak.  For a moment I thought I was the only one still holding on to the past and keeping my equipment.  Incorporating my rack system was very crucial in establishing my living room decor because there is where I play my music.

Back when I did a refresh in this room, I purchased the huge buffet to store all my CDs – yea- it’s packed with cds and my vinyl is in a nearby large basket behind the sofa (until I find another way to display)

Lots of incense gets burned in this space, cultivating the chic-boho-antique vibe when I’m spinning the vinyl.

If this is not enough to inspire you to dig out your turntable and need a bit more inspiration to show you how to keep your cool decor with the music player – here are a few other accounts that’s sure to appease your style.

Meet Mr. Wesley Taylor – a freelance portrait and lifestyle photographer based in Chicago, IL. Not only is he one hell of a photographer, he’s also a Brand Content Creator.  Seeing that he hails from Chicago, I’m going to assume he’s a househead (like myself) but one thing I can say, he’s got great taste in music.  In fact, I couldn’t agree more with his top five Stevie Wonder albums.

As you see, he loves his albums and music player.  I was totally inspired how he incorporates his vinyl covers as his art with the ledge over the system.  The album holder blends perfectly with his home decor adding a cool rustic vibe to the aesthetics.

Coffee, tulips and music.. what a great way to start the day

Next up is Ola Broom – a design diva, whose home is a blend of globally-inspired, eclectic space with a hint of sass.  To get a taste of  global bohemian eclectic mix, visit her blog J’adore le Decor

Then there’s Tiffany at MyEclecticNest who’s bold art deco style is an eclectic mix of modern, vintage and contemporary styles.

Pure glam with her music player styled to perfection on the etagere

Last but not least, if you want to indulge in the Mid-Century Mod style, Nicole at DesignItVintage is your true inspiration.

She has her local set up in her family room

but when it’s time to serve the drinks and cozy up, she opens up the vintage stereo and spin her records

To see more of her “Blue Ranch” mid-century glam, follow her on Instagram

and if you’re really into styling your equipment, DizzyStoneNYC, has created the ultimate swank you need for the upscale contemporary presentation – marble slab pedestals.

and then there’s the upscale Airbnb – GolfSafariHouse in Tanzania that encourages you to come in, put a record on and relax

So there you have it – Vinyl is not only back, but it really never left.  I still find it hard to pass the album section of any thrift store I go in without thumbing through real quick.  I hope you’ve been inspired to bring the stereo from the basement, blow off the dust and add it to your decor.

  1. I absolutely adored this post. I still have my stereo system and my albums,12 in remixes, 45s,1 lonely 8 track tape, cassettes, and CDs. I love them too much to part with them. Music will calm the savage beast and is a great way to unwind on the weekend or after work. And, I have noticed a resurgence of people purchasing vinyl. My younger has a IG account where she just posts her vinyl…I am amazed by her growing collection. It has made me want to start adding to my collection. Thanks for sharing this post. Stay safe.

    • darn, that sucks.. well the thrift stores are filled with records, you could slowly build your collection back..and they’re only a dollar.. just a thought

  2. Wow what a great line up to be a part of!!! I’ve always loved the sound of music coming from a stereo and I’m so happy they’re making a “comeback” although where did they really go right?!! LOL

    • Hey Tiffany! Thanks for being apart of this. I loved your style and it’s so inspirational — now if only we can get the young folks back to the basics of watching vinyl spin and appreciate the thrill.

  3. Hi! This was a FANTASTIC post! So cool to see so many people are getting their throwback groove on with vinyl! I have kept all my 45s and LPs from as far back as GRADE SCHOOL!!!! I recently added a few more from my Mom’s estate. Someone bought the entire lot of the 133 remaining after I’d picked through them. There’s just something about touching that needle down and hearing the richness of sound the way I remember it as a kid. We have THREE record players here at our house, but only one is prominently displayed in the family room. After this post, I see I have some work to do figuring out how to give the other 2 some love elsewhere in the house! I LOVE the idea of making the album covers a part of the decor!!!!!!!! There were LOTS of great ideas here!!!!!!!

I hope you and yours a doing well during these crazy, unprecedented times. I’m hoping I will now have at least a little more time available to read and enjoy my favorite blogs…and maybe someday start posting again myself. Take care!😘
