The Afro-BoHome of Shawntay O.

Good morning everyone!  It’s been a while since I’ve done a tour of homes and I decided it’s time to begin again.  I’ve been in awe with many decorators who are creatively discovering their styles and decorating their homes.  As I reflect on my motto “living the lifestyle of the thrift and famous”  I’m here to inspire you with decorating your home on a budget without breaking the bank.  There is a plethora of creatives making their sanctuaries into the decor havens they so desire.  I believe the old saying, “variety is the spice of life” and I intend to spice things up a bit on the blog.  So to begin, I’d like to introduce you to the beautiful, Shawntay Outley, a young lady whose style has caught not only mine, but others, eyes and inspired them to break open the color explosion box and go for it.  So, without further ado, I created a little Q&A session to learn more about Shawntay and her Boho infused style.
VLV –    Tell me a little bit about yourself.and style
S.O –  I’m a born and raised Cleveland native and has been working in sales for nearly two decades.  As of recent, following the design of my own home, and documenting its progress on my personal social media,  I’ve also been entrusted to design the spaces of others. Now, in addition to my sales career, interior design is something that I’m pursuing as a secondary career endeavor. Most importantly, I’m a mother to three beautiful daughters and the cutest pit bull ever.  My African ancestry is the inspiration behind my decor.  My style is a representation of the love of my culture and my home clearly reflects that in the decor and the pieces I choose are very personal to me.  I’m a proud woman who loves her home and my mantra in decor is “say it loud, I’m black and I’m proud.”
VLV –  Do you thrift your decor – if so what’s your favorite store and best thrift find(s)
SO  –  No, as of now I’m really not much of a thrifter.  Thrifting often requires lots of patience and time, two things that I don’t seem to have enough of lol. However, in the near future, I see myself venturing into the thrift-life and getting my thrifting mojo started because I do enjoy up-cycling.
VLV –  What is your inspiration behind your decor style
S.O –  My style is very reflective of my zeal for life, my earthiness, and free spirit-ness (is that a word?).  I describe my style as a marriage of Afro-Bohemian and Eclectic. African culture, patterns and art are at the heart of my style.  I also love mixing styles and eras, mixing vibrant colors in with neutrals and utilizing patterns and layering to add depth to a space.
VLV –  Do you have a favorite designer
S.O  –  I don’t have a favorite designer per’se, however, my favorite “designers”  are other every day people like me that draw inspiration from the beauty around them and incorporate their own version of beauty in their spaces.
VLV –  What do you like to do on your down time
S.O  –  In my down time I love to travel or even wander my local neighborhood, transforming strangers into friends. I’m a foodie and I my pallet isn’t shy—I’m willing to eat just about anything once! I can literally find joy in doing anything. I love to be in the moment, whatever or wherever that is.
