Jewelled Napkin Rings

Who doesn’t like a little bling in their life?  I’m not one who has a lot of blingy items, but I do love vintage inspired items.  When I saw these drop dead stunning napkin rings by Joanna Buchanan, I got totally excited.  Aren’t they gorgeous!!  Imagine how beautiful they’ll look on a table setting.

Of course my imagination ran wild – until I saw the price

Stick a needle in this balloon because it burst instantly when I  saw a set of 2 for $56.00 x 3 = not in the budget.  Don’t get me wrong, but If i did alot of entertaining then maybe, just maybe, I might have splurged but having champagne taste on a Budweiser pocketbook – it wasn’t going to happen.  So I did the next best thing…. I created my own version. Here are my butterfly rings.

To create them, all I needed were brass napkin rings (which I already had from a previous thrift score for $6.00).  I scoured thrift stores, ebay and estate sales for quality vintage brooches and found my selection vintage brooches to make them.  Heated the hot glue gun and “VOILA” – I created my designer hack/knock-off of the Joanna Buchanan napkin rings.

Now here they are at a table setting.

I wanted to have a different one for each setting instead of a complete matching pair (besides, it’d be time consuming trying to find 6 of the exact same thing).  I saw this pair that looked like a starburst to me and loved them as well.  There’s so many to choose from.  You can see the full collection here.

When I told my sister what I was creating, believe it or not, she had one similar and kindly donated it to me.  So when I have my formal setting, this will be at her place card.

Isn’t it gorgeous!!  Then I found this stunning peacock pendant on an instagram feed by Jessica Hubbard and she sold it to me.

And of course it had to make it’s grand entrance on the table as well.

Here’s another style I created

And last but not least this, the gorgeous pink one that bursts with color.

After having the beautiful bling rings, I desperately wanted to refresh the room.  It was time to amp up the search for window treatments.  If you recall, I have been wanting new drapery. I was extremely pleased with how they turned out and really just in time, because I had to create a tablescape for……… my exciting moment that I’ve been wanting to share with you…. drumroll…. I had my very first photoshoot!!  I’m so freaking excited about it.  I’ve been asked to have a home tour for Flea Market Decor Magazine!!!  Can I just stop a moment and take a deep breathe and exhale.. because seriously guys.. I can’t count the number of times how I’ve dreamed about being in a magazine (hence why I decided to create my own) but this was a complete shocker.  Here are a few pictures from behind the shoot

It was an exciting moment, and I’m slated for the Fall issue.  I know it sounds a bit far off but it’ll come quick and not to mention I’ll keep you posted.

Rick Smoak Photography Studio was the fantastic photographer of the shoot and it was truly a pleasure meeting him and his talented assistant.

So guys, I’ve been extremely busy after this event, but I have more thrift finds to share.  Remember the I2I Yardsale was coming up and we had plenty to set up.  I hope you’ve enjoyed my designer knock-off version of the napkin rings and share my excitement of the feature.  I hope you’re out there finding some goodies.  As always – Happy Hunting while your thrift your house into a Home!!

CIAO!!!

  1. Oh, my gosh! I’m so excited for you!!!!!!!! How cool! I hope I can find it here in KC! Probably at Barnes & Noble? I’ll keep my eyes open with a reminder from you this Fall!!! As for your bling napkin rings, I DO do a lot of fancy entertaining, but there’s no way I’d pay that for 2 little napkin rings!!!! I love YOUR way of getting the look without the price! The brooches used to bling up the menus for my recent birthday luncheon would work great for a project like this!!! They weren’t vintage, but they were pretty. I may have to give this a whirl!

  2. These napkins rings are magnificent! I love having them mixed matched. You found some pretties for a great hack. Congrats on your upcoming magazine feature. I’m so excited too and looking forward to flipping the pages.

  3. Congrats you’ve only just begun. I like the idea of each napkin ring being different, it’s like the rings on your wine glass to help identify your glass.

    You grow on Gurllll 😉
