It’s Curtains

I have to admit, I was shocked at the level of love my napkin rings received.  It’s amazing how a simple DIY could garnish such fondness.  But just as the napkin rings came right on time, so did my search for finding the right drapery fabric for my dining room.  I was thrilled when I stumbled on this bold chinoiserie peacock fabric.  When I my eyes zeroed in on it, I used my picture editor to try to imagine it in the room.

I was a bit weary of the burgundy (it’s not a favorite color of mine) but the boldness of the pattern had my name all over it.  My design goal is to incorporate more patterns in my decor.

If you recall my excitement when I found the perfect area rug, I was still wanting to add more color and different patterns. The neutral decor got kissed with a warmer jewel tone decor simply by adding fabric.

So here’s the fresh new look .

I also added these two contrasting fabrics by using napkins and small lumbar pillows.

Moved a few pieces on the wall around

I also retired the art work on these two walls and used some mix-matched vintage candle sconces (for $1.00) to simplify the wall space and dressed the table with other thrift finds.

The brass candle holder was a Goodwill find for $4.00 and blue and white chinoiserie ginger jars were found at a thrift store.  The box of candles I scored in this post really came in handy.

The blue vintage glasses were from Restore Habitat and the price for the set of six was $7.00.  They were the perfect match for the dishes I scored on this post.

The fabric faux hydrangeas were yard sale items that I’ve kept around (just in case).

I have to share a little secret…. burgundy and royal blue were not my favorite colors in the crayola box but they sure look pretty good together in this room.  I know I added more colors than expected but once I got started with pushing the pattern envelope, I kept adding more.   Changes like these are inexpensive yet can make a big impact.

So I promised myself now that the dining room has this elegant look, I’m not going to dump the mail here anymore…(fingers crossed that I can keep it)…heeeheee..  So everyone… that’s all for now.. The dining has been updated and checked off the “to do” list.  Nice to see I’m making progress.. slow, but none the less.. making it.  Well I hope you’ve enjoyed the new look and also hope you enjoy your Summer.  Until next time…. Happy hunting while you thrift your house into a home!

  3. Yeah, you’re right…no way you could have let that fabric get away. It. Is. Fabulous!!! I’ve been watching the miniseries “Trust.” about the John Paul Getty family, and it reminds me of a fabric I saw on there. Sumptuous and rich. Really cool! It works wonders in your dining room! It really lends a formality to it. You’re going about this transformation in a way I admire. It can be tough to inch it out.
