Friday Finds

Happy Friday Folks!!  I hope all has been well and happy that we’ve made it through another week.  It may seem like I’ve been on a hiatus, but actually I’ve been out scoping the scene.  So come let me take you on a thriftscapade.  Let’s GO!!   I know everyone had been buzzed up about Amazon Prime Day – but truth be told – it absolutely meant nothing to me.. (I actually wouldn’t know anything about it had it not been for social media).  Well let’s get started because I’ve got lots to share and I’m truly happy at what I’m seeing.  Ready for some retail therapy – let’s start with this fantastic mid-century china cabinet.  It’s tagged 50% off

I loved this mirror and for $30.00 – excellent price

I came extremely close to getting these lamps, and for $27.00 for the pair – nail biting moment.  The picture doesn’t do the beauty of them any justice.  The only reason I left them was because there was a screw missing to keep the harp in place.  It’s an odd shape and would be a pain in the butt trying to find another for it.

Not a bad looking coffee table.. kind of boho-ish.. priced at $35.00

This smoked glass table had my heart skip a happy beat.. gosh I really want this… but I have no place to store my dining table while I enjoy having this beauty.  It was priced at $225.00

This pair of rattan etagere would be great to have as well.  They were priced at $65 each.

This vintage dresser set with the mirror was $100.00.  Again, in very great shape.  The Greek-like brass handles were attention grabbers and really made the set more appealing. Someone glued a decal on the mirror but that can be removed with some Guk-off.

In the next area of the same store, I saw this vintage Drexel Heritage (marked) dresser and mirror tagged at $40.00 – and oh yea- it came home with me.  I could not resist this baby.  It was in great condition and definitely a “gotta have it”.  I was ecstatic about this magnificent find.  I’d been wanting a mid-century piece for a while now, but they’re getting hard to find at affordable prices and are in high demand.  Many people are reverting back to buying the original well built pieces of furniture and ditching the remakes because the quality is simply not there.  As you see here, the prices for them are rising.

When I went back to pick it up –  here’s where the element of surprise hit – I couldn’t believe what I saw.  Brace yourself…  A complete set of 1980’s Henredon Campaign dresser set.  There was no way I was going to leave that store without my name on it.  Ok.. well not exactly my name but luckily my aunt was with me and she bought it!  Yayyyyyy –that means I get to go visit it.  If you’re not familiar with this brand and style, just take a look at what they’re going for on the retail market here.  At first my aunt was hesitant, until I showed her and she made a mad dash to the register.  We both laughed because it was truly one of those “at the right place/right time” moments.  They had just gotten it in and wanted it gone because it took up too much space.  The asking price $150.00 for all of it!!!  This set was in absolutely fantastic condition and each unit was marked with the manufacturer’s name inside the drawers.

Turned the corner and found this mid-century chair.  I know.. it’s not the greatest looking because of the dated tweed fabric, but I did like the shape of the chair.  Honestly speaking, I was a bit apprehensive about sitting in it because I hated the way the fabric felt.. (kinda skeevish to me) but I needed to feel how comfortable it was.  So, I took a deep breath and sat.  Actually it was very comfortable.  Tagged at $10.00 I decided to get it for the Brick Cottage bedroom.  I’m not having any luck with finding a bench I like for the foot of the bed, so I figure the chair will do for some seating.  Of course it’ll be reupholstered to bring the baby back to life.  Again these chairs are being replicated with a cheaper quality.

Found this vintage Murray Feiss hand painted lamp for $5.00.  As you see it’s in the cart – I figure my mother would like that one.  I also grabbed a few DVDs for $1.00 – yea – I still look in those bins because I might find a “remember this” movie and I also look for cds and albums, which I got some for $1.00 as well.  I’ll show my selection in another post.

More beautiful dishes.  This set was $35.00 .. smh.. I had to leave them (begrudgingly)

Another vintage lamp… (sidenote – these 80’s lamps are making a comeback) and for $3.00 not bad at all.

This marble and brass chandelier was a beauty too.  Tagged at $75.00 pink ticket is half off, so $37.50  was another fantastic find

Last but not least, I really liked this pair of rattan tables.  The tops actually lift off and can be used as serving trays. These would look great in a casual room setting.

Well everyone, that’s all for now.  As you see I’ve been enjoying my little thriftscapades and seeing lots of goodies.  I hope you enjoyed this episode of Friday Finds and are out there having equal fun while you thrift your house into a home.  Stay tune to see the makeover of the vintage chair.  I’m pretty excited about it.  In the meantime – Happy Hunting!

  1. Jamala,
Your posts are always real eye-openers for me. I would have walked right by some of this furniture without realizing these are classic styles that are still being made and sold for so much $. We’re not taking a lot of stuff when we move to NC next year, so it will be fun to hit the thrift stores. Thanks for your great blog!
