let's go thrifting by Jamala Kim Wallace

When I think about thrifting and how it affects my life and people around me, I realize it’s not just about the thrill of the hunt and finding things at great prices, but it’s also about saving money while creating a home that reflects mine and their style, taste and budget.  You see, I don’t just thrift for me, but I do it for my family, friends or people who’ll just say to me “I’m looking for …..”  and when I find that item, and reveal what it costs, they’re amazed at how much I’ve saved them.  While decorating your house into a home, the one key element it takes is Love.  The love of having it, the love of taking care of it, and the love of creating it.   I was truly happy about establishing this magazine and when I coined it “Let’s go Thrifting” I wanted to take you along with me, however, if you’ve noticed I’ve changed the title.. It’s become Thrift Life.. because it’s actually a lifestyle.  A lifestyle that not only I, but several others, who have helped make the “second hand’ industry become a viable shopping entity in home decor, home goods and fashion.  I hope you enjoy this issue and and always become inspired by designers who are making Thrift Life – the Lifestyle of the Thrift and Famous!

Hey everyone!! I’m so pleased to be back with a new issue of “Let’s Go Thrifting” magazine.  If you’re new to the blog, Welcome!! And by all means click here to view previous issues.  This is an exciting new issue because I had the desire to showcase a few designers who created stylish spaces to inspire you.  Every time I publish an issue of the magazine, I feel more and more accomplished in my goal.  I’m truly amazed at the wonderful responses I get, and when I reach out to a decorator, designer, blogger, or stylist to feature them, not only are they willing, but they are happy and excited.  Sometimes the word “team” is used when speaking of people who are in your support circle, but I’ll go a step further, because I have better…. I have a village who believes in my dream and goals and love being a part of it.  As humble as my publication is – they enjoy and appreciate that I’ve asked them to be a part of it.  Many understand and value the purpose of my concept to create it and it’s truly is a rewarding experience to be able to feature another issue.  This is what pushes me to continue to create each new issue.  Baby steps will turn into adult steps and then leaps and bounds (fingers crossed)!   I have set my goals for “Let’s Go Thrifting” and with the help of “my village team” I have the confidence that I’ll meet them.  I hope you enjoy reading and I’m sure you’ll become inspired!!  So everyone.. “LET’S GO THRIFTING”!!!

Let’s Go Thrifting by Jamala Kim Wallace

It’s hard to believe September has gone and Fall is approaching fast.  I’m happy to bring the third edition of “Let’s Go Thrifting” – The Lifestyle of the Thrift and Famous magazine.  It was very exciting putting this issue together as I focus on two of my favorite decor items: Bar Carts and Black Art.  I chose the bar carts because holiday entertaining season is approaching, and what better way to entertain than with a stylish beverage cart.  Marsha of MJonesStyle joins me with tips on how to style your cart.   For the love of vintage, read about the re-introduction of the “new art” to grace our walls.  With home decor stores like Burlington Coat Factory and Ross’s Dress for Less flooding the markets with “made in China” black art, it demises the authenticity of original black art.  Amina B. Lee, ISA of Pieces of Time Estate Sales Services in New Jersey, dishes out information about African-American art and shares a few of her favorites.  I hope you enjoy this edition and share with your friends. As always, Happy Hunting While You Thrift Your House into a Home!
