Another Thriftscapade

There’s a song that Pandora played  called “What do the lonely do at Christmas” (which I actually like), and then I get asked, “what do the folks who don’t celebrate Christmas do” –  My answer…. absolutely nothing..  but enjoy the day off, relax, cook, eat and chill.  That’s good for me and my family and it’s been that way all our lives.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I enjoy looking at the lights, I enjoy the music, I enjoy joyful folks I see, and think – too bad it’s not always like this.  Then I look at the internet and see so much ugliness and name calling (smh) .. and wonder where’s the love.  But I won’t linger on about that, because I do want to wish all my readers who celebrate the holiday a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!  I know you’ve had your fill of all the beautiful Christmas Home Decor tours and there are sooo many beautiful ones and I loved looking at them and complimenting the beautiful decor.  Meanwhile, my mind is saying, boy oh boy the thrift stores are going to be on & poppin’!!    So let’s take a look at all the fab finds I came across BEFORE the Christmas dump (aka out with the old -in with the new) that’s about to happen.

This rattan loveseat.. it was perfect for a screened porch but could use some new fabric.  It was only $55.00

Here’s another loveseat with matching ottoman and in great condition.. (could use a good vacuuming)

and matching sofa

Nice dresser (very different) and it excellent condition for $125.00.  I found a similar style on line for $895.00

another nice sofa for $250 Looks like it was barely used

This mid-century chest was an excellent DIY piece and only $45.00

Fell in love with this Bernhardt Hollywood Regency chest and it was $150 (pass out moment) – because these pieces on the market range from $500-1500

You see the price on this coffee table.. . WOW!!

The  vintage Bassett green chair was $20.00 and as you see.. in great condition.

vintage side table $15.00

I even liked this vintage crushed velvet sofa $85.00

Moving up the notch.. this leather sleeper sofa was $300.00

pair of end tables for $35ea

Another sofa in fantastic condition for $185

And outside of one of the thrift stores is the “free” pile.. all this furniture headed to the landfill if no one takes it.  Look at that chestefield style sofa.. smh.. wow… It’s like I wish professional designers put their skills to challenge and come get these items and remake them for their clients.  These are items that need love and care and can be reupholstered into fabulous new pieces.  Imagine if more can see beyond the “gross” and revitalize it.

Here’s a bonafide atique sofa –  waiting to be hauled off.. (if it lasted over 100 years imagine how much longer it would last if reupholstered.)

Bottom line.. somebody has to love this used furniture and appreciate it – and I don’t have a house big enough..lol.  Well, those are the finds I recently came across.  I’m sure there are going to be more goodies in the next coming weeks.  For my fellow thrifters – I hope you’re ready to snag some good deals!  As always –  Happy Hunting while you thrift your house into a home!

ps.. I’m just being curious (from a conversation I had)… do you shop thrift stores for holiday/birthday gifts.. and would you be upset if you received a thrifted gift?   If so, let me know

  1. Always enjoy your articles. Thank you. I just love your thrift finds!!
I have given thrift gifts, and “omg, where did you get that?” is usually said (in a good way). I absolutely would not mind thrift gifts… they are usually unique and or timeless.

    • Thanks Stefanie!! I truly appreciate you following along on them. And I definitely love the fact you thrift your gifts!! that’s beauty of them.. because you’ve searched for different items. Happy hunting lady!!

  2. Hi Jamala,
Glad you are resting up after all that work on your office! I have given thrifted gifts to my sister-in-laws because they either understand or share my interest in estate sales. It’s been easy to find one-of-kind items that are so right for them.

I wanted to pass along a viewing suggestion for anyone who gets Netflix. The Great Interior Design Challenge is filmed in Great Britain. Even my husband who has no interest in decorating will watch.

Happy New Year to you and your family!

    • That was music to my ears Ruth!! I’m glad they share the same ideology and can appreciate the gifts.. also thanks for sharing the program on Netflix (because I’ve not heard of it).. i’ll definitely check it out!! I hope you enjoyed your Christmas and Happy New Year to you too!! Wishing you peace and blessings.

  3. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours!!! My family and I love giving/receiving thrifted gifts; they’re some of the best gifts that we’ve had for years and will have for years to come.
