Choosing the Correct Vintage Lamp!

Adding Another Lamp

Good morning guys!  I’m so glad you enjoyed Chantelle’s Thrift and Famous home tour, it was really a pleasure having showcase her home on the blog.  It’s always fun seeing how others style their home using thrift finds.  In my opinion, it sort of breaks up the Rooms to Go kind of look.  I’ll be having another fabulous tour very soon.  Last week, I flew up north for a quick weekend getaway and when my nephew, Nazeeh, picked me up from the airport, I told him to head straight to the bagel shop (love those Jersey bagels) for breakfast.  On our way there we passed a thrift store (2nd Ave Thrift), of course I couldn’t pass not going in.  God bless my nephew, he was so patient and accommodating.  We chuckled in the car over the conversation of me not being able to pass it up.. (as he said, I thought you were hungry) – of course I was, but first things first.. right?? heeeheeeheee…  Well, let me say this – as you know I have a serious lamp fetish and I honestly thought I had the addiction under control.  I let quite a few slip through my fingers saying to myself – walk away- you don’t need it, like this one

I was totally digging the curves on this lady.  The shiny black and gold had an art feel to me (although I know it screamed 80’s come get your lamp -hahaha) but none the less I liked it – ALOT.   But moving on pass that one, I was doing my usual – I don’t need anything, but I like to see what’s selling on the marketplace- routine and stumbled on this mirror

Urrrrrkkk… let’s pump the brakes on that scroll… because this – I wanted. It was different and I thought hmmmm… perhaps something to change up the dining room bar cabinet .. ok.. $20 bucks.. it was worth trying.  So, the sale transaction was made and the mirror was more fab in person (and heavy as the dickens).   Now, back to my NJ thrift store pit stop, I was almost through the store and way in the back I found, yet, another lamp.  Here’s my – woooosah – moment.. lol.. because this one is NOT getting left behind.

Now, it’s not for everyone’s taste, but I truly felt the vibe of this lamp, The curves, the black with the acrylic, the shape of the shade (which is never my choice) but I loved it with this lamp.  So for a budget of $40.00 I was able to change the look of the bar cabinet without breaking the bank.  I retired my artwork that I had above it and the two new items offered a refreshing new look.  Here’s how it’s been for the past few months.

And now the area looks like this.

I spread the wings on the cabinet to give me more space (which was a pretty cool feature)

Just added another taller pair of (thrifted) candle holders for additional height to balance the sides

I did change the rug in this room to a cheetah print to match the foyer rug

I changed the drapery (for now).  I found these Ikea tab top panels canvas panels for $6.00 for the pair at a charity thrift store.   I’m not a huge tab top fan, so I folded them in and hung by the clips for a more semi-formal appearance.  I’m going fabric shopping soon and since I’ll be painting in here, I didn’t want to spend $$ until I chose a paint color (which is why I’m not participating in the ORC like I had initially planned).  Picking out paint colors is always a dilemma for me.  I’ll also change the fabric on the chairs.

I’m keeping the table simple with just a mid-century amber vase (purchased from Pieces of Time Estate Sale) for Fall.

But for now I’m enjoying the slow changes in the room

Back in this post,  I purchased an art deco cabinet and it’s the newest furniture addition in the dining room.  It took me a few months to decide what to do with it and how to pretty it up.  Although the bones were good, the wood and interior were in dire need of some TLC.  I wasn’t in a big rush so I took my time.  I’ve finally finished this project and will reveal the new look and how it looks in the room.

The best part about thrifting your house into a home is you don’t break the bank and you can switch things up as often as you like, plus you can always re-sell items without taking a major loss (or in some cases, might break even or earn a little extra).  So, I hope you’ve been a bit inspired some more to shop the secondary market to decorate your space!  I’ll touch back later in the week with a new post and in the meantime – Happy hunting while you thrift your house into a home.

CIAO!!!!
