ORC – Week 2

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE – DINING ROOM DESIGN BOARD

It’s week 2 of the One Room Challenge and time for an update.  I’ve decided the style of this room will be considered afro-chinoiserie chic.  Well, so far all I was able to accomplish was pack things in the room.  I could strangle myself with all these dishes lol.. but I do love them.  Luckily I don’t have too many items on the wall to take down.  This is the design board I was able to create for the room.  I’m using items gifted (not from a company) and used items to accomplish this look.  I purchased the paint already, so these items are not part of my $200 budget.  I really hope this all pans out and looks good.   I’m still trying to find the right piece to go over the art deco cabinet.  The art work that’s hanging now will go back in the room.  That’s my favorite piece and I love seeing it when I walk into the room from the living room.  Up next, I will be adding the molding on the walls and begin painting.  I know that’ll take at least a week for me.  In addition to this challenge, I signed up for a 2-week furniture flip hosted by Nicole at Design_it_Vintage (I’m really pushing myself to the limit here) but I actually committed myself to that project before the ORC, so I intend to keep it.  I’ll be working on an item at my mother’s house.  Several years ago, I purchased an art deco bar cabinet at an auction for about $25.  It was in need of TLC back then, and I just never got to it (shame on me).  I was visiting mom and realized it’s time to take that project on and committed myself to it.   This piece was a fantastic find and I really loved the shape and wanted it for myself, but I didn’t have room for it.  I was glad my mother did and allowed me to bring it there.  Over the years, the wood has gotten completely dry and needs to be reconditioned and  polished along with scratches removed.

I’m no super wood worker and this will be my first time trying my luck at something to this extent.  My goal is to bring the wood back to it’s shining glory, clean the knobs and try to repair the damaged areas. (as best I can) without hiring a professional.  In addition to all that, I still have my day-day stuff lol.. So, as you see.. not a lot of typing will be happening these next few weeks.. but I’ll be giving progress updates.  So stay tuned.  Thanks for following along and take care.
