Welcome back to another update on my Afro-Chinoiserie Chic Dining Room One Room Challenge. Let me start by saying I’m extremely happy this challenge exists because it really did make me want to get this done. Not only do I get to have a refreshed space, but I also get to join in on the fun with so many other super talented creatives and designers. I hope you’ve been falling along with some of your favorites. If you’re new here from the challenge, welcome to my blog. I’ve been wanting to change things up in this room for a while and procrastinated and now the procrastination is over. I’m going to keep this post short because I’ve been pulling late nights with getting the painting done. In fact, the first night I started I started at 9:00pm and thought I’d just do one wall each night. I counted the walls and figured I’d have it all done by the end of the week. Well that first night was Monday and I pulled an almost all nighter because before I knew it it was 4:00am and I had to go to work. By the time I got in bed, the alarm was going off for my husband to get up.. Needless to say I only got 2.5 hrs sleep and went to work. It was a rough day but I made it through. The rest of the nights I’ve been chipping away at it and as of tonight I can officially say I’M DONE PAINTING!! When I first applied the coat I was sooo nervous because it was not how I envisioned the color. But I continued on and said Oh Well.. it is what it is.. I’m not changing. So let’s go back to where I started. Saturday I painted the French door black. Sunday, I commissioned help installing the molding on the wall. I did not know anything about this and did not want to ruin it. I had an excellent instructor and he came ready to work (thank God).
The first week I painted the legs of the dining set back to black. I had already begun the chairs prior to the challenge (glad I did)
The paint color I chose was Sherwin Williams Shade Grown. Here’s how the new wall color looks during the day
at dusk
And here it is by night
Nail biting moment but I kept on rolling with it. I used Ultra-White on the trim. Unfortunately I ran out of molding and had to order more. But at least all the painting is done. I can go back and paint those once they’re installed. I’m also working on mom’s art deco cabinet. I will dedicate a blog post just for that on the reveal day which is Wednesday. I did hit a few bumps with that, but overall I do think it’s so much better. So that’s all I have and I’m headed to bed – lol.. good night /good morning.

I love that wall color: Classy, timeless, and dramatic. The evening look is especially gorgeous. The molding looks great too.
