No Bulb Needed

Hey there!!  Just a real quick share –  I was so excited about the – I’ll call it – Breakfast at Tiffany’s – inspired Chandelier I caught on sale at Lowe’s that I forgot to show you what else I picked up.

This was $2.00 – not sure what I’ll do with it.. but I liked the shape and the thickness of the glass.  Pretty cool.. not bad for two bucks

and this was $6.75 —  this one.. I freaking Love!

Since I did not have anything in mind to use it for I just got one – till I got home and realized what I could use it for —–

(I could kick myself for not getting 2 or 3 or 4 uggghhhhh!!)   Did you ever do that???

not For the Birds Cage

Hello Everyone –  Here’s hoping all is well with you.. Your thrifty girl has been piddling along with this dining room make-over project.    I really opened Pandora’s box with this one.  My first decision was to simply paint the set – which I did.. I grew tired of the black legs and wanted to change them up a bit.   Here’s a sneak peek at the progress.. I really love the new color.. (I have to admit – I was verrrrrry nervous).. chuckles.. The color used is by Krylon called Metallic nickel.  The paint has a smooth glittery finish and really makes the set look richer.

Well???  What’s your thoughts..

Up next – Fabric.. I will keep you posted.  I had to break away from this mind boggling project, so, I updated another tray.    Remember these.. well this is the third one.  I decided to use it in the family room.

Here is the new look:

It really adds color to the coffee table and blends much better than the cranberry red

Okay –  let’s move on to the birdcage.   If you can remember a few weeks back – I picked up this vintage birdcage for $13.00 at a thrift store/yardsale.

When I spotted it I knew exactly what I was going to use it for.  You know I like to change things up a bit and have multi-functional pieces.   First up.. a new look.   I used Rustoleum Glossy White and Metallic Gold spray paints to freshen it up. .. I’m so happy with it.

Can you say ahhhhhhh!!! with me… 🙂

The wall paper samples… well —- they came in handy again.  I used a gorgeous piece that had tree branches and a few birds (for nostalgia purposes) to line the bottom tray.

Guess what I’m using it for..

Yup… towel storage..  if you can remember I once used a planter for this bath,

I’ve been a  naughty girl by buying more plants so it went back to being a plant stand.  You know something,  I think the bird cage looks even better as my towel holder.

This bird did not fly over the coo-coo’s nest..  🙂  ..  no sireee..  this bird’s thoughts can’t be caged in …

Do you think I’ve gone Coo-coo… ???

If not – welcome to my world of un-caged thoughts.  Have you used a piece for unconventional purposes lately?  If so, do share.

I’m off to fabric hunting –  Wish me Luck!   Have a great day

A Quick Fix

It was a hot, hot, hot day and I decided to work on this “whatever thingy”  I  found a while ago.  It was a dumpster dive found item.  I’m guessing it was once a bar stool –  what do you think??

I figure…why let it go to the dumpster.. ???  It’s got good bones so I’ll give it a new look..  simple, quick & cheap.  So here it is with a new look as a new function.   Ohhhh the power of paint!!!!

Pretty simple and now I have another plant stand (for now)… Who knows what it will be later.. I love the triangular shape of the legs.   The tips received a dip in gold.

After painting it I added a pretty tile for the topper.  It’s not grouted yet. I found the tile at Lowe’s on the clearance rack for $2.50.  It was pretty enough to use.  I may grout it later, I just didn’t want to buy any grout for this small project and it sits around collecting dust – never to be used again.  But, in the mean time.. It’ll do just fine like this.

I’m sprucing up my porch and it sits perfect in the corner

I’m glad it didn’t make it to the dump. :).    Have you saved anything from the dumpster pile lately?  If so, share your story.  Until next time.. See Ya!

Re-purpose Shadow Box

Call me crazy but I bought this candle/soap box set  (oh my God.. talking about your smell good, the candle was soooo awesome).   Well anyway, moving right along, the box was really nice and I just couldn’t part with it – yet..  It was covered in one of my favorites.. gold foil.  So after I removed the soap and candle, I took the box apart.  It favored a shadow box … so I figured I’d use it – why not??

Used a few elements from my potpourri (for texture)

not bad for  a bit of  texture to the wall.. and when I get bored with it- I’ll just toss it..

Thrifting the Day Away

I’ll take 70 degree weather for the first day of winter – any day.  It was the last day for me to catch any deal I could find at the local thrift store called the Lighthouse, because they’re not normally open on Saturdays.  Let me take a few minutes to describe this thrift store.  It’s no where near fancy but the volunteers who work there really do their best to make everything as presentable as possible and I applaud them and their efforts.  The items in the store are donated and they sell the items really cheap (sometimes too cheap).  They operate on a shoestring budget but somehow they manage to stay afloat to maintain the only thrift store in town.  Many people benefit from the items they sell (especially the clothes), but for people like me who look for home stuff – I really luck up..  just today I found these glasses there and see the price.. yes .10 cents

and these were only .50 cents –  so you know they came home with me.. and they cleaned up quite  nicely..

Well I found a vase and this plant stand… the two together were .75 cents.. (I said are you sure..?? and she said yes.. – I’m like “Wow”..)  I feel like I’m stealing the stuff for real.. but these are the two items..

The plant stand had a bit of chipping going on and the leg was a bit loose..

nothing that hot glue won’t fix to tighten it up..The vase (which was an average vase you find all over the place.. Unfortunately I didn’t take a picture of it before I did my “thang” with it.

I taped it up and began to give it a new look.. (spray paint to the rescue!)

tape came off and this is the new look

not bad huh??

Time to put it to use.. but first I grabbed a pine tree stem and some small rocks to fill the glass

Sprayed the plant stand and added it to the display

oh .. and I got this barely used candle from there for 10 cents and decided to spruce it up ..   the paper flower came from a bag of popourri and the ribbon was a salvaged piece from the holly jolly job being thrown away – a dab of hot glue and it’s spruced up

So you see how lucky I get at the lighthouse!  I hope they add Saturday to a normal open day real soon –  🙁
