Monday Makeover

Back in December when I featured Machelle’s home on the blog, after I finished photographing her lovely home, we took in some quality thrift time.  Machelle took me to areas I’ve not been to and when we finished our day, my car looked like this

Straight up, no joke, it was completely packed.  Had my husband seen my car like this he’d wring my neck… so needless to say, I had to make a couple of stops to lessen the load.  You know how we women have to hide the stash and come back later for it….lol.. But I have to say – it was well worth it.  So, let’s move on to the makeover, which is the chair.  I found this chair during our last stop at Goodwill.  For $19.75 I knew immediately it was coming home with me.   Didn’t know what purpose it would serve but there was no way I was going to leave it. Granted the fabric for this chair is clearly all wrong and did nothing for the  classic look, but I knew I’d find the right fabric sooner or later.

When I sent a pic of the new find to my sister, she said she could use it in her bedroom…. BINGO!  So it sat dormant for a bit until she was ready to come for it.   The day I found the fabric for the bench I called to let her know I’m out fabric shopping.  She told me to pick out something in the tan family.  So I sent pics of the fabric I found, and luckily this fabric was also $2.00 a yard.

She also has a slipper chair in her bedroom in need of a makeover and wanted fabric for that as well.  Since both chairs were going in her bedroom, I found a coordinating print to add a bit more contrast to the look (this was a tough sale for her, but I assured her it’s really nice) and for $2.00 – it’s a steal.

The cost of the fabric for both chairs was $24.00.  Both pieces are a soft chenille pile and extremely durable for everyday use.  I can happily report that she was very pleased when she came down last week to pick up her chairs.  See how classy it looks now?  In her words to me.. “You did good, sis”  which was music to my ears.

The fabric has a hint of a sheen which gives the chair a more classic timeless look and I love it.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a “before” picture of the slipper chair, but this is the new look with the dotted chenille fabric.

It now has an exciting new fresh vibe and one thing for sure is, it definitely doesn’t look like a 80 year old slipper chair.

So everyone, what’s your thoughts on the new makeovers.  I hope you enjoy the rest of the week and while you out there, don’t forget – happy hunting while you thrift your house into a home!

CIAO!!!!

  1. Design magazines are always saying we should add texture to a room and the soft fabric is perfect for a bedroom, too. I really like what you did with these. Your eye is perfect, my friend. Wish I could go with you on these exciting and creative road trips. ~Ginene
