Hey everyone!! Welcome to our Backyard Bash progressive dinner party blog hop.. I’m so happy you joined us again for our virtual soiree. This is such a fun way to inspire you to create your own dinner hop and enjoy the Summer entertainment without having to take on all the work of hosting an entire dinner party on your own. A progressive dinner blog hop works this way: You start out at one house for cocktails or appetizers, then move along to a different location for each course. Lucky me, this time I get to make the dessert – yay-yay!!! Thank you for coming over after visiting Marsha and experiencing her spectacular dinner. I know it made you want to lick the plate (heeeheee), but I hope you save room for the after dinner delight! For dessert I thought I’d share this yummy-licious treat with you. It’s a mouth watering southern classic – Honey Bun Cake
I had never heard of this cake until I moved South and OMGeeeeee! It was love at first bite and I immediately had to learn how to make it. At first, I was thinking it was going to be a long process because it’s a cake, with a cinnamon filling and then glaze icing.. but oh how was I DEAD WRONG! Can you just say easy peasy.. I’ve never been a fan of boxed cake (don’t get me wrong, but once you taste a cake from scratch, you notice the difference in the texture), but this recipe starts with boxed cake mix and the rest is smooth sailing. So let’s get started.
Honey Bun Cake
This cake is nothing short of a mouth watering, moist delight. Perfect with your morning coffee or simply as a nightcap delight.
- 1 box Betty Crocker Butter Recipe Cake Mix or Yellow Cake Mix
- 3/4 cup vegetable oil
- 4 eggs medium or lrg
- 8 oz sour cream
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup light brown sugar loosely pack
- 3 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 4 tblspn milk
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease 9x11 glass baking dish. In large mixing bowl, combine the first 5 ingredients. Blend until creamy. In a smaller separate bowl mix the brown sugar and cinnamon. Pour half the batter in the baking dish and spread evenly. Generously sprinkle half the brown sugar mixture. Using a fork lightly swirl around the batter. Pour remaining batter on top and finish with the remaining brown sugar. Lightly swirl batter again. Bake for approx 35 minutes or until you insert a toothpick and comes dry. To prepare the glaze, add remaining ingredients in a separate bowl and blend until smooth. Pour glaze over hot cake. Let cool; slice and serve.
Now that we’re all done with dessert, it’s time to head over to Home On Poplar Creek, where Nicole will have a wonderful hostess gift and party favor all ready for you. I hope you enjoyed this delectable treat and thank you again for joining us and visiting my neck of the woods. Don’t forget to hop over to the other ladies to complete the menu and to make it even more convenient I’ve provided the links for you. I’d like to thank Shelly for organizing such a wonderful event! Hope to see you at the next one.

CIAO!!!
This looks like a cake d have to go to confession for after eating it!!!😁 Rich, decadent, darn near sinful!!! Sign me up!!!!!!! I’ve never been a boxed cake fan, either, but in my old age I’ve learned how to amp up the flavor AND texture by subbing melted butter for oil, using an extra egg, etc. With all the cinnamon in this cake, the taste can’t be anything BUT delicious! Pinning!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL!! Yes, Alycia.. it’s just that kind of cake. So … let us pray!! Pray we don’t an extra pound with every bite.. pray I can stop at one slice (yea right) and pray we don’t get too addicted that it’ll have you making another one the next day..

I tried real hard to comment on some of the blogs but could not as coming from a different forum it’s quite difficult. I even tried updating a blogger reply account.
I wish WordPress and Blogger could make commenting easier. If you have any suggestions please share.
