Warming Looks for Fall Season

Although the season has changed from Summer to Fall by the mark on the calendar, however, the weather here in SC still says Summer, but believe me… I Ain’t Complaining!  I actually enjoy the brisk morning air, but by 10:00 here comes the 80/90 degree temps.  But I know, soon, that too will change, so I began a bit of the warming process in the house decor.  Generally, I don’t seasonal decorate, but I thought I’d toss my hat in the ring this time for a minor (and I do mean minor) change in decor.  I started in the Living Room, then proceeded to the Guest Room, and then the MasterBedroom (trickle effect and you’ll see why).  The changes I accomplished was basically moving things around the house and adding a few simple decor changes.  The room was light and airy and this is how it looked all Summer after I changed the window treatments.

I’ve always admired the African mudcloth pillows and considered buying some but the prices were a bit more than I wanted to pay, but I popped into Home Goods on a whim and found two pillows in the clearance bin and that inspired me to add the African mudcloth and kuba pattern into the room for Fall.

I added the second jute rug hanging a while back along with the tassels from this post.  See how the pillows and moving the plants began to change the tone of the space (simple change).

Then I warmed the coffee table by changing the candles, adding the deer skull and a $2.00 thrifted amber tone leaf dish.

The black beads added more color to the dish and in the background you can catch a glimpse of my fabric pumpkins (I use every year in just different areas).

I found an African boutique that sells the mudcloth fabric (yay-yay) and bought more fabric,  My intention is to make more pillows, but  I draped it over the chaise and see how the deep tones warmed the area to give a feel that things are cooling off (although the temps are still in the 90’s).

I switched the wall decor as well.  I wanted to lighten the load because I gave myself a birthday gift (and btw – today’s my birthday!!)  It’s something I’ve been wanting for a while (actually a couple of years) but just waited patiently.  I even wanted to DIY one after this video from LindaGlovinghome.   I ordered the feathers and got the cardboard, but I just couldn’t get this one out of my mind because the colors were perfect.

I bit the bullet and treated myself this African JuJu Hat and I’m so freaking happy I did.  It’s just what I wanted.  It added a whole new warmth to the room (trust me.. I searched high and low trying to thrift this badboy).  I guess there are some things you can’t thrift – oh well-.. but I did have a coupon code to use which helped a bit.

I hung my  Blackamoor head vases to complete the look.

The beige earth tone of the feathers softly says “Fall” is in the air.

Adding more plants around the room completes the seasonal change of the room

Pampas grass is everywhere here and my neighbor allowed me a few snippets.

On the stereo etagere I added another thrifted pumpkin (and that’s the extent of my pumpkin use).  I added another plant that I’ve been propagating all Summer on top along with the deer antlers.

The brass ram overlooks the view of the room.

And the basket got another look with fringe.

Then moving into the  guest room, I made a few changes by rotating furniture and adding a rug.  I love ordering from Rugsusa because they have really good sales and delivery timing is wonderful.   The peacock chair was placed in here along with more fabric and again warmed the room.

Eventually I’ll cut it to make pillows, but for now I’m enjoying the pieces in their entirety.

A little black cat sits sneakily by the door

And this room is marked “Fallbulous”

In the Masterbedroom – I just switched out my slipper chair with the french provincial chair, changed the rug, wall decor and pillows.

I have to say, the darker rug works much better in this room because my husband and his work boots strikes again.. (a mechanic’s wife woes)

The oriental silk screen was a thrifted find at “The Big Grab” yard sale for $18.00.

The colorful chinoiserrie pillows were ordered from a blogger friend’s home decor line, Monica at MonicaWantsIt.com

One day I’ll muster up enough energy to paint this room… (I’m so over the celery green), but for now I’ll just add more colors I like and work around it.

That’s basically where I call it quits for seasonal decor.  I try not to go overboard because as fast as time is going, it’ll be Spring again and time to brighten things up.  I signed up for the one room challenge (for the first time in my blog life) and I’ll be working on my office space.  It’s basically refreshing it and organizing myself, but nothing drastic.  But to motivate me, I thought I’d join for the fun of it – wish me luck that I’ll finish on time- lol.   Well, I think I’ve said a mouthful in this post. I hope you enjoyed reading and became inspired how I warmed the home with African fabrics and simple touches.  Wishing you all Happy Hunting while you thrift your house into a home.     There’s one last special thing I’d like to say…..

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMINA!!!!  My twin sister is truly the best twin sister I could ever dream to have.   I love you!!!
