One Room Challenge: Week 3 Office Refresh

I’m back with another simple update – tedious but simple.. and that’s painting.  I know I mentioned how painting is not one of my favorites, but I shocked myself and knocked it out in one day.  I know to some that’s not a big deal, but for me – it really is.. considering I hate painting..lol…   I went looking for a barstool and saw this one at the AT HOME store (above my pay grade) so I kept looking.

Low and behold I found one at Goodwill for $23.00.  I also found the bamboo shelf in my travels for $10.00 (had to get it)

Even though I painted 2 coats – for some reason my eyes keep seeing pink – what about you?   The bottom shelf is still pink because it’s coming out.

In the midst of painting, I had to move the chandelier and laid it down.. duuhhh.. completely forgetting – its plastic… I’m painting and smell something burning – like plastic melting – I kept looking around and then it dawned on me… follow the scent and there it was.. the melting chandelier — YIKES!!  LOL

Oh well.. one damage won’t kill it.. so I’ll just dust it off, shine it and keep it moving because I’m not buying another one.  For the corner shelves – I contacted my friend Chris (who’s excellent with wood) and he created the one of the shelves.

It’s exactly what I was wanting however the 2″ was a bit too thick and looked chunky in the small space.  So back to the drawing board and I decided to switch the look and go with floating shelves.  He crafted this one and it was perfect for the space, so I’ll be getting a few sets of these made.

With the new computer in the space – it’s really starting to feel more office like.

Up next is applying the stencil and contact paper.  I’m still contemplating what to do on the back wall behind the computer.  Any suggestions??  Looking for more inspiration – by all means hop over to The One Room Challenge to see all the other participants and cheer them on.

  1. How about carrying the stencil over to the wall behind the computer? Or contrasting with the stencil with a bold color? Goodwill is one of my favorite places to find cool and inexpensive pieces too! Can’t wait to see it finished!

    • Hi Tina! Thanks for that suggestion..I thought about that and thought it may be a bit too much for such a small space. But I like the idea of a contrast color… I’ll look at that option.. maybe a Kelly green color.. your thoughts?…

  2. Finding that barstool at Goodwill – you are amazing! Computer wall, maybe pull out a color from the artwork, but paler version?

    • Thanks Ruth! Yes.. that sounds good – I’m guessing the kelly green color.. ? I’m so lost on this one.. but using an accent color is a great idea

  3. Great! I know the chandelier will polish up well. I am jealous of that barstool cause I have been looking for three for my Son’s place. Kudos!!

    • Thanks Neti! Yea.. it didn’t look too awful.. (thank God because a new one was not in the budget)lol.. i’m sticking to this strict budget. Keep searching for your son.. they’re out there. try estate sales in your area..
