Back when I did the bathroom update for the $100 Room Challenge, I had to shop my home for shelf styling to not exceed the budget, which I was pretty cool with.
I’m still sharing bits and pieces of small items I picked up at the yard sale. Another item I bought for $1.00 was an Audubon photograph done by Pawley’s Island photographer, Donald Withers, called Mating Colors. I thought the picture of the white bird would look nice against the wall to refresh the bathroom shelf.
I’m trying to take advantage of every window that has sunlight, so I added another plant.
It’s similar to a photograph featured on the cover of this post of the PDN (photo district news). I’m always amazed how photographers are able to capture such beautiful photos of nature’s beauties. One blogger buddy, Sonya Lira is excellent at it and she takes amazing photos. I love her work (in fact, I think she should submit her pictures in contests to win awards)
I kept looking at this corner as well thinking it’s too much sunlight to waste on faux flowers. I also wanted to change out the small table for something a bit bolder in style, but hadn’t found anything in the thrift stores. Then, believe it or not.. I pass a particular item every day on my porch when I go check the mail. Then the “V-8 clunk on the head hit” me…. duhhh, bring in the swan stand and see if it fits. Yay moment because it did. It was in dire need of painting due to the outdoor elements (it’s been out there for a couple years).
I decided to paint it black and add some new plants and I’m happy to have it in it’s place. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it back during the reveal.. but I’m glad to have it here now.
Now I’m much happier because sunlight is not wasted anymore..lol.
Are you making and Spring updates to your home? I know many people did lots of updates during Covid lock down, but since it’s a new season and everyone’s feeling more positive about brighter days. I FINALLY picked out a paint color for my dining room and will be starting that project, no major knocking down walls and extending stuff..lol, just a good ole paint job and new curtains. Please share your plans.. I’d love to hear.
Jamala, I love that your home/style/approach to decorating reflects that any ole ugly duckling can be transformed into a beautiful swan. —Joy R.
Love that Audoban print. egrets and herons are my favorite birds. I’ve been doing some tweaks here and there and purging.
Like the swan! Little changes can be such a boost. Since our house is going on the market in June, l am looking to refresh but minimize. (not as much fun) Looking forward to seeing what you do in the dining room. Ours needs some tweaks.
