Living Room Makeover

After Saving Grace, and getting excited about her new look, I decided it was time to make a few changes in the Living Room.  I initially was going to put her in the foyer, but realized #1 she’s too big … Continue reading

Pillow Talk

I know there’s a lot of  pillow talk going on right now – and why?  Because pillows are the easiest way to update the look of any room or furniture.  Now it’s time for me to join in the conversation – I began my pillow talk this past week.  Spring is coming and I wanted to add a few of them around the house.  After having new pillows on Grace, I realized it’s time to refresh pillows around the house.image

My story began with this gorgeous fringe I found while clearing out a closet.  I actually forgot I had it and when I saw it that’s when it hit me.. Pillow Time!

image

Can’t let good fringe go to waste..  So next stop.. The fabric shop.   I’ve been on my animal print kick for a while, and luck be the lady, I found the perfect fabric that satisfied my wild side.   The fabric was $15.00/yard ( I know.. Ouch) but I couldn’t resist.  My savings came in the pillow forms.  Again, I got lucky (on the thrift side) and found feather down pillows at Goodwill for $1.00 each.  I removed the old fabric and created 3 new pillows for less than $20.00   Here are my new pillows:

Not bad right.. The fringe really gave the pillows a high end designer look. I’m loving my “J” style pillows, and there are  few that I’ve been fiending over that I’d like to share with as well.

Interior designer, LindaG, makes some of the best pillows.. here are a few of my favorites

If sewing isn’t your thing, I found this gorgeous fur pillow here  .. I’m really considering this style in the master bedroom.

And to mix it with some champagne bling would be great.. Like these here babies

Saving Grace

Hi everyone! I  hope you’re doing well, and I thank you for hanging in there with me during my respite.   I’m back again to share with you another marvelous makeover.  This time it’s a beautiful Recamier antique chaise lounge that was left by my dear friend Joyce.  She really had some of the most gorgeous pieces but they all need TLC, (one day I’m going to do an exclusive post about her).  She gave it to my brother, who in turn, relinquished it to me – Thank God, because his dog was about to destroy it… Uggggghhhhh… I wanted to beat him up (my brother that is).   Let’s take a look at this pitiful soul..

chaise

Poor baby- ?? .. I’m going to name her Grace.  She is a gorgeous, handmade chaise lounge, that has gone decades needing attention, and was looking really disgraceful.  This piece was appraised to be over 200 years old, (I know what you’re saying.. WOW!!).  Recamier chaises are also known as “ladies fainting sofas”  and you can read more about them here.   This particular lounge has more of a Caribbean feel because of the handcarved details, and choosing the right fabric wasn’t easy.  I chose a vanilla, tone on tone fabric that has a slight raised texture.  I also chose to use nailhead instead of gimp for the trim.  After two bottles of oil and a trip to the upholsterer for a magic makeover – she’s now full of Grace.

Isn’t she lovely!!

image

One thing I love about choosing an antique is some pieces are so rare which makes it more special.  I love her new look.  I chose to have a varied animal print pillow selection just to spice things up a bit.

The nailhead trim really enhances the beauty and I really dig her sexy curves and carved details.

image

I’m so happy about the new look and extremely happy she’s mine.

After this makeover, I think it’s time to do an “ORC” one room challenge.  Like the Dining Room, I’m doing the same thing with the Living Room.. The $100.00 dollar makeover.   So– Stay tuned ..  If anyone else is up to the challenge, join me and let’s decorate together.  I’d love to see your “design on a dime” new look you create.  As for Grace, holla at your girl and let me know what you think.. I’d love to hear from you .. Until next time .. Happy hunting ?

$2.00 Tuesday

Hey Guys!! I know you probably think I’ve fallen off the bloggysphere..lol,  but actually I haven’t.  Between my computer acting up, my hands hurting and me just taking it easy, I’ve just been piddling along.  I’m still out here coming across items to share. I’m also making a few changes in the home, which I’ll be sharing with you this week, but in the meantime I’m touching base with a few more $2.00 Finds.

I found these two Mottahedeh french planters at an estate sale.  They had some rust inside but for $2.00 – I definitely think they were worth it.

I cleaned them up and put a couple plants inside and they’re good to go..

So two for $2.00  – I’m satisfied..

Now, check out what Lesley over  at ThriftThrift lucked up and found.  She was pretty happy when she scored this awesome American Eagle laptop case.

Pretty cool huh??  I love that blue & white print.  Hop over to her blog and check out her other thrift finds.

And Erin over at Live Pretty on a Penny found a cute turtle at Goodwill which she glammed it up a bit to display with her other collectibles.

It’s the power of paint and how it makes a difference.  That turtle definitely fits in with her other collectibles.  Visit Erin and see her beautiful home and how she designs on a dime to Live Pretty on A Penny.

We all enjoy our $2.00 finds and remember if you score a great deal use hashtag #urthriftygirlfinds to be featured.   After all, it’s not how much it costs, but it’s how you style it!

So happy hunting my dear friends?

$2.00 Tuesday

Good morning .. Remember me!!  ?  Hi everyone! I know it’s been a while but, your girl had to take a hiatus from typing, blogging and thinking.. etc..   It’s so funny because I looked at my horoscope and it read: “You may find yourself in a dreary mood, Libra, with little ambition for getting things done. This may be your spirit’s way of letting you know that you need to slow down, take it easy, and take some time for yourself. You need to heed this feeling, because once you allow yourself some personal time and space you will begin to heal from this recent bout with melancholy. Yes, things are about to get better, and you need to recognize that even the most difficult times can get better.”  And truthfully speaking, that’s been my feeling for the past couple weeks.. Just feeling kind of dauncy.. a bit of ho-hum-ness.  but that’s ok.. I think we’re all entitled to that feeling.  I did make great use of my time by clearing emails, reading so many wonderful blogs (which I’ll be introducing them to you) and getting re-inspired – which is always a good thing!  So, thank you for bearing with me and following along.

I did muster up some desire to stop in Goodwill.  I needed to find a blanket for Ms. KoKo.. (I dare not buy one brand new – I always hit up Goodwill for her blankets and stuffed animals.. they’re only $0.25- $1.00.  I came across two cool items for my $2.00 Tuesday post..

mail holder9

A cute vintage mail holder for $0.75

and a basket planter for $1.25  – Two items.. total $2.00

The metal mail holder had a few rust spots, so I gave it a quick touch up with metallic gold paint

It’s a perfect organizer for the mail…

Not bad for 0.75 cents right?

And a planter always comes in handy.. actually I was needing one for my tropical plant.. (I’ve just been pussy-footing around going to get one… so this was perfect timing..)

Since I was painting, I decided to give it a quick new look..  I only had white and gold paints so I used them.. who knows, maybe I’ll change it later.. but not bad for $1.75

Remember… It’s not how much it costs, but its how you style it.. These items were definitely worth $2.00. Have you found anything you’d like to share..?  Don’t forget to hashtag #Urthriftygirlfinds so I can peep you out.  Until next time darlings!  ? Happy hunting..
