Air Plants in the House

I stopped over at the nursery to see what they have and saw the air plants.  There were so many to choose from.

Well needless to say I came home with 5..  I love those little buggers especially since they require no dirt.   They’re very easy to care for.  All you basically need to do is dip them in water or spray them.   To learn more about their care you can click here.  You can be so creative with including them in your decor.   This is how I used them.

Here I used a couple of the sand dollars that were in the Seashell Jackpot.   Using a dab of hot glue to hold in place I created a “sandwich” for the plant to display with the seashell vignette.

This one sits nice and cozy inside the swan cork dish

The sea rock had holes and this one sits neatly inside.. I dabbled a bit of hot glue to keep it in place

This one fits perfectly inside the bottle neck of this vintage vase

The seashell nestles this one

Do you like them?  Have you grown air plants?  If so, share them with me..

Kudos to Krogers

I paid a visit to Kroger’s supermarket and noticed their basket of manager’s special flowers and thought I’d buy a few to create an arrangement to brighten my day.. fresh flowers always says “it’s a beautiful day to be happy” to me.

I’m a novice at creating an arrangement but I tried my luck and was pleased.   I used a cheap vase I bought at that terrific yard sale last week for $0.75.  I liked it because it was on a pedestal – nothing fancy but what the heck..

It’s a  beautiful Saturday and it’s nice to have a lovely bouquet around the house … light some candles and let the day begin..  Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

I Copied!

I saw a post from Home for Now featuring Gold Dipped Wine Glasses.  So your “girl gone crazy with paint” decided to give it a try.  Guess what?? I did it and liked it.. I used some $0.50 cents  glasses – just in case I goofed – I would’t feel so bad..  But I actually scored because they turned out great…They actually match the ice bucket I’ve had for years …..

It was quite simple.. I taped them.. sprayed two coats of metallic gold paint..(let dry between coats) and sprayed with a clear polyurethane.. let dry and hand washed them..

Here are my pair gold dipped glasses

I decided to use a 3rd one to create a glitter glass candle holder

This was my first time working with glitter spray .. I think I started something.. because I like it  🙂

They all look pretty elegant – so much so, that I think it’s time to open the bar and show you my family heirloom – a vintage “Creme de la creme” wine cabinet.   This wine cabinet is a rare find.  I have to pay homage to my dear sweet grandmother, we lovingly referred to her as “Mother Dear”.   Mother Dear had this cabinet covered with a tablecloth for years.  I never knew what was underneath because she had plants sitting on top.  After she passed, we cleared her belongings, I removed the cloth and found the hidden jewel she had been hiding for many years.  I asked my father if I could have it.. and he said “yes – of course”.. I was so happy to have gotten something of hers.  I brought it home, had it professionally refinished (it had some type of paint on it) to restore it to its natural beauty and it’s been a cherished item ever since.

See the beautiful wood grain

I’ll show you what makes this unique… It’s how it opens and closes..  The top lifts up and the inside moves up and the top lays flat

To create a serving area

The top stores the glasses

The bottom stores the liqueur

The gold-dipped stemware and the glitter-glass candle holder looks fab here

Mother Dear picked a beautiful time piece.. because this baby will never go out of style.. (In fact, I bet there will be a replica made of this someday)..

So I thank  you Mother Dear – Every time I look at this – I smile and reflect on the fond memories of her and how much I love her.

Winter Be Gone!

All these pretty pictures of snow during the winter months were nice to look at but honestly speaking – I’m done with winter.   I took a stroll through my yard and realized just how damaging the cold weather is.  It gets kind of depressing knowing all my summer hard work goes to pot.  Sure the logic is … it gives the perennials time to rest so they can bloom again, but I guess I’m just the ansy soul patiently waiting to see them come again.   Oh and #1 factor – I hate being cold!!  Yes –  it did give me the reason to have my night time treat of hot chocolate.. which I do love..mmmm… nestle makes the best.   I use hot water when I make it but I fill the mug halfway then add the International  French Vanilla to the remaining full then add whipped cream and that’s my chocolatey winter delight (and a couple brownie brittles to go with it..hehehe)  – what can I say.. I love chocolate.. 🙂

But moving along, just look at what “old man winter” did to my yard…    It’s pretty grim….

All I can say is  “PLEASE WINTER BE GONE!!!!!

I want to enjoy my chill out spot again   …    Anybody out there feel the same way I do…???

It’s My Blog and I Can Cry If I Want To

This is a post completely straying away from the norm.   So, I hope you don’t mind the interruption, but bare with me through the sniffles.

You may view me as a wimpy mom, but I feel compelled to speak on it.  My husband don’t get my emotions, so he’s not a good listener.  I’m actually writing about my youngest son, Amir.  I’ll take you through a quick journey, but his life was one carved out to be a chef.

By the time he was 7 and making it known I geared him for that.  Well, culinary school was  a real awakening…. OMG the cost was outrageous.. pretty grim, so he decided to join the military.  The Air Force- which is great – yes he’s doing something positive with his life.. and I’m truly proud of him..but the fact of the matter is.. I miss him..sometimes I find myself just looking at his pictures wondering what’s he doing.  He’s been overseas for months and it’s just been hard at times to deal with.. so I’m taking this moment to reflect my feelings by writing about it.  Attending his graduation was an experience I’ll never forget.. seeing all those young men transformed into strong, discipline soldiers devoting their lives for our country gave me chills because knowing my son doesn’t belong to me anymore, but to the U.S Government..is very hard to take.

Being able to visit him for his birthday made me more happy than him.

His first visit home was a true blessing just having him around the house and cooking all his favorite meals..but the time went so fast.. and that’s when he told me he’s heading out of the country on deployment..  Oh God..Is all I remember saying.. So off he went…  Boarding a plane to another side of the world – leaving the familiar land of U.S.  As mother all I can do is pray..

Everyday wondering what’s he seeing, what’s he doing, is he eating ok (because you know only we mothers know how to feed our children.. chuckles..)…

Modern technology has made it a bit easier by being able to instant message and Facetime from time to time.  I won’t linger too much about this .. but I just needed to vent a bit.  So while waiting patiently for him to board the plane to return home, images of him will always linger in my mind while my heart will always be missing him.

I love you son,
