One Room Challenge: Week 6 – The Reveal

Today’s the day friends, it’s reveal day for the One Room Challenge and I’ve completed the office! The past six weeks were busy, but I shocked myself by managing to complete this challenge and not pull my hair out..lol.  I can’t tell you how many months have come and gone with me saying “I’m going to get to this room” but could not manage to get off my butt and do it.  But now… I’m really glad I swallowed down my procrastination pill and got off my tush to complete this project.   I clearly see why Linda of Calling it Home started this challenge and Better Homes and Garden is the official media sponsor.  I’m saying a huge thank you for creating this event to motivate procrastinators (like me) to get projects done.  If you are just checking in and want to see more of my process, you can visit the previous weeks by clinking the links below.

Week Five

I have to say once I finished the project, trying to photograph this space was a bit difficult (after all it’s only 5ft x 3ft) – pretty small right, but it actually feels a bit bigger.  So without further yapping, let me show you where I began (for the newbies here)

This was my design board

Step inside my office with a fresh and vibrant new look.

The custom shelves look fantastic painted with Valspar metallic gold paint.  The shelving on the right looks more custom with the capped ends and faux marble contact paper.

The cheetah stencil is such an artsy backdrop for the artwork by Brescia Bercane.  To save money on framing, I purchased a picture from Goodwill and re-used the frame.  These Wobane Under Cabinet light strips adds much needed lighting for the workstation.

For shelf styling – I shopped my home.  All the picture frames were collected over the course of my outings to put family photos and artwork in.  This is a downward angle to give you an idea of the size I was working with.

The top shelf is styled with a vintage Tiara Indiana Black Amethyst Diamond Point compote for more black accent.  The print was previously used in the office, and of course I had to add a picture of my little munchkin (I could eat that tongue)  lol.

A once candle holder became a small bud vase for more color.   The vibrant abstract art was a free download print from Amira Rahim and again, I re-purposed another frame from a thrift store along with another brass picture frame with a favorite picture of my sister, mom and me.

I brought in the incense holder vase from this $2.00 Tuesday post and to add some height to my picture I covered hardcover antique books in gold foil wrapping paper and stacked them.  (I could change that when I want to add another pop of color)

The faux marble stand featured in this $2.00 Tuesday post was a perfect fit in the corner to have as a beverage station.  (I have to give a shout out to my son, Jamil, for gifting me the beautiful leopard glasses – he knows his momma’s taste)

This Harman Kardon Onyx wireless speaker is a game changer for plug-in speakers.  I absolutely love the sound quality and how portable it is (not to mention its sleek style – looks almost like a handbag right?)  Once fully charged, I can get up to about 8 hrs of play time.  If you’re in the market for looking for one, this is definitely a great choice.  It even has a sleek carrying case that you can strap across you.   Every office needs a candy dish, and this cute little apothecary jar was just a perfect fit.

The opposite side shelving holds a few favorite books and writing journals along with my favorite brass urn and coral dish which is perfect for paper clips, thumb tacks  or push pins.

I didn’t have a small clear vase for some fresh flowers, so I used a brandy glass instead.

I used the same decorative storage boxes since they were still in great condition and looked good in the office.   With the new styling I was able to add a printer in the space.

Everything is nice and neat

The striped backdrop of the computer gave the area more character instead of looking at a blank white wall.

The acrylic envelope stand (purchased from Pieces of Time estate sale) holds my pens and also is an excellent phone holder.  My swanky new microphone is by Fifine.  It was simple to install and it produces great sound quality over my videos.

Of course you remember the latest thrift find – the blooming trash can.

And that’s all there is to show for the finale of my office refresh for the One Room Challenge.

I’ll definitely be happy about spending more time here.  My husband is already cracking jokes saying he may need to install an oven in here to get dinner cooked lol..

Thank you so much for following the evolution of my closet to office makeover.  Your continue support is truly appreciated.  So if there’s a project you’ve been wanting to tackle and think you need some motivation, I hope this helps to get the ball rolling.  Perhaps, you’ll even join the challenge yourself.  Keep in mind, you don’t have to have a blog, you can be an Instagram participant too!  It’s a great support group.

Well.. that’s all folks!!!  Now I’ll relax, pop that bottle, put that leopard glass to use and begin checking out all the other participants and their fabulous makeovers.  Feel free to leave me a comment on your thoughts.. 🙂  In the meantime, Happy hunting while you thrift your house into a home!
