$2.00 Tuesday #7

Is it me or is it that these $2.00 items are just making themselves be there for me.. lol.. because I declare..  they’re popping up all over the place.. (it’s like they’re saying – here she come- oooo -pick me, pick me..)… Unbelievable.. but it’s true and here I was thinking it was’t going to last long because there aren’t a lot of things worth blogging about for $2.00.  Well, I’ll ride it as long as I can…  I just hope you enjoy the ride with me.. and if you don’t, feel free to say “Hey Kim no more..”.. until then.. here’s the next $2.00  post..

Ok.. Goodwill is the source.. I know you’ve seen these vases all over.. well.. it’s $0.50, the candle (still wrapped) $0.50 that only equals $1.00.  But I did pick something else up for $2.00 which I’ll show you in a few..But first I want to show you what I did with these two items, because the other item is a no-brainer.

Keep in mind that I’m making use of the items and not spending  anymore money to  use it.  I sprayed painted some leaves for the silverleaf effect (my attempt at a little pun)

I inserted the candle into the vase.. Using a pair of stacking trays I already had, I flipped the larger one upside down and placed the smaller one on top,  added some live pine stems .. then made a seasonal arrangement with feathers (which I love) pine cones and this is my $1.00 finished product. …

It looks pretty good on top of the little cute cabinet I refinished back in the summer

Ok that was my first dollar spent .. ..  moving along..  This is what I bought for $2.00

not bad right???   I could use it as the typical book stand for when I’m cooking to hold the book..

But it’s more useful for me as my charging station

now all my electronics are in one place without having them at different areas charging..  See… like I said, a no-brainer…

Have you had any luck with finding a $2.00 item and would like for me to post it.. let me know.. I’d love to hear about it.

A Gourd-geous Sunday

Here it is – Thanksgiving already,  and I still haven’t created a tablescape for Fall..  So today was a perfect day to do something.  The weather was pretty crisp so I decided to decorate these gourds I got from a  neighbor.  He generously gave me 6.. which I was truly happy and thankful for.  As I reflect on this holiday, I realize there is so much to be thankful for.   Even something so simple as getting these gourds for free.   I created this simple tablescape with items that were found around the house and cost zero dollars.  What a blessing it was to be able to do that.   These are the gourds I started with:

After I washed and dried them I used leftover spray paint I had from previous projects to give them color.   Then it was time to get creative.  I had a mirror put inside a frame a few months back and decided to use that as my platform.  I found a bag of popourri I purchased from a yard sale back in summer for $0.50 cents.   This is the tablescape I created for fall.

I used some of the small pine cones from the popourri to outline the candle base

Twine left over was used around the neck of this gourd.

The gold paint on this one has a gentle glow…

I still think it needed something else, so I went outside and plucked a few of these dried berry leaves  to add to the arrangement.    This is the finished look for my Fall tablescape.

Like I said…. I have much to be thankful for.. Being able to have a home to create this lovely centerpiece for..  Is truly a blessing.. Amen…..

I really like the table centerpiece  glow by candlelight……  Simply Fall …

Have a wonderfully blessed and safe Thanksgiving

$2.00 Tuesday #3

Ok.. I wasn’t as successful with this week’s post, but I did manage to get a few items for $2.00.  I ventured into Hwy 121 Indoor Yard Sale here in Whitmire.  The lady there was very pleasant.  I found a whole bunch of items in that store for $2.00  –  I was like “WOW” ,  I could really stretch my buck here.. chuckles… But I couldn’t use a lot of the items I saw..(but, if I ever need any more glasses, I know where to go – they all were roughly $0.10-0.20 cents a piece)..     These are the items I came home with.   All for $2.00    —   not bad – again..

$2.00

Even though I’m a dog person, I couldn’t resist the little kitty cat eyes on the little planter (not to mention the price)..   🙂   Although I don’t decorate for Christmas, I do like the decorations and the colors of the ornaments.  I’ll use them another way to add color around the house.    I cleaned the kitty and found her a place on the windowsill  for a coleus plant I’m rooting for next year..

She looks pretty cute perched  on the widow with the other plants..  🙂

As for the tree bulbs.. I like putting things inside my potted plats  (rocks are always the norm) but I thought I’d give them a try in this plant.. something to hide the big roots because they’re big and round.

I added the balls for some color in the pot..  and here is what it looks like..

not bad for some color in the pot- and unlike rocks – they don’t add extra weight (because it’s very heavy – every summer it goes outside for nature to take care of it) and I get the dreaded sigh from my son when he has to lift it to take it out..

And for the crystals.. I’m going to use those on a crafts project..   Will get back to you on that note..

So you see shopping with $2.00 is  not impossible.. practical but definitely not impossible..

Besides….This is getting kind of fun too!

Once upon a tray table

There once was a life for this boring tray table.  But since the children are gone and we’ve become empty nesters.. there isn’t much use for it.  The kids used it for multiple purposes..so it just sits in a corner…that is until now..I’ve decided to make good use of it for myself.  So here’s a look at the poor old lifeless tray table.  Very ordinary right?  But.. it served its purpose for them and now it’s about to serve its purpose for me.

Time to get rid of the bland wood tone.  I’ve always wanted to try chalkboard paint so this would be my first project using it.  I painted the top with the chalkboard paint and painted the bottom with a hammered bronze paint.   So far so good, I like how it came out.

But it still needed something to hide the squareness of the boring table..    Remember my  $0.50 Sunday project ?  The picture frame is ready to be used

I measured the frame and the opening fits perfectly  on top of the table.  Soooo,  now the old tray table has a new look..It is now the guest bedroom “Welcome Station” .

I wrote a little note to let them know how welcomed they are.

The ribbon holds a spare key just in case I leave, they’ll still have access to the house.

It’s no longer sitting there to collect dust

Holla at your girl and let me know what you think?  Feel free to follow me on my Pinterest Make-MeOver board

No more plant stand

I had this vintage plant stand on my deck for the past two summers and didn’t do anything with it… Well, today…..guess what this old weather rusted stand became?

First I had to do a bit of scraping to get the rust off, and then I used spray paint ( I’m really liking the use of spray paint – because it’s so simple and easy)..  I used a color called Avocado which is a pretty soft green.

The new color is on, the rust is all gone and I like how it looks.  ..

Do you think you can figure out what it became?   What would you use it as??    I’ll give you a hint.. it’s coming inside for a better use..

It became a BATH STATION

VOILA!!!!!!!

Here it is…. and this is how I’m using it now..

I found another planter not being used and decided to make it the facial cloth holder

I definitely think it’s better here than outside on  the deck rusting away.  I couldn’t use the cute cabby I did any longer because it was a tad too big  for the corner

I still needed something to accommodate the bath accessories, and this came in handy.
