More Thrift Store Decor

I remember I once had a car tag that said “Beware, this car stops at all yard sales” (something my husband found years ago for me),  Well that is pretty much true, but it also makes sudden stops if passing thrift store.  That’s what happened while in route to another location.  Lately, me and my partner in crime have been venturing to new territories staking out new locations to get our game on.  While meandering down the road listening to tunes and the “ever so wonderful” GPS, out the corner of my eyes, I spotted a sign that said “THRIFT”… eeeeerk time to put on the brakes and make a U-Turn.  I told Jan she’s slipping because she’s gotta be the eyes while I’m driving and vice-versa..lol…(that’s how we roll).  Well, we went inside the tightest, fullest, crampest thrift store.   I kid you not, it was so tight in that store that it was just us three in there and we couldn’t walk around.  Uggghhhh…  guys, not only was it cramp, but it very unkept and raddy, but…..she really had some good pieces in there, just had to dig for them.  I’ve been looking for a mirror for the brick cottage dining room, but haven’t been able to find one.  We pondered some styles but just couldn’t figure what style.  I searched in stores such as Home Goods, Burlington and Ross’s, and couldn’t find anything I liked.  Well tucked between the shelving unit was a big mirror.  I pulled it out to get a better look and to my surprise – I loved it.

It was a bamboo accent mirror.  The unique pattern caught my eye and I thought it would be perfect for the dining wall (notice the reflection in the mirror… stuff, stuff, and more stuff).   I texted a picture to my son and he liked it.. so.. with that, it was a taker.  The cost of the mirror was $35.00.  Now, loading that bad boy in the car was another story.. Geeeez was that sucker heavy.  We broke a sweat lifting it.  Just for shyts and giggles – I checked on line to see what these style mirrors are going for and to my surprise..  Hell freaking YES this was great deal!

My girlfriend Machelle posted this rattan table she spotted at Goodwill.. lucky I saw it.. I asked her to snag it for me.  I needed a mate for the one at the BCP and it was perfect.  It was a bit worn but for $12.00 it’ll be cool.

Now back on track to another location we stopped at another store and I found this cute acrylic/lucite lamp.   side note   Now you all know I really don’t need another lamp, but I couldn’t leave this one…. It was just too gosh darn cute and for $15.00 (including the shade) can’t beat that with a baseball bat!

and again.. look what they’re selling for online

So we got the goodies all home (I could tell the mirror was going to look good at this point)

The smile you make when the shyt is heavy and trying to grin and bear it.. (while I figure out the placement) heeeheeeheee… (and then came the Ma.. would you hurry up!!!!)

So…. let’s take a look at how they’re styled at the brick cottage.  The lamp was placed on the wine rack for a bit of soft lighting in the dining room

Cozy right????

This round glass top table came out and was replaced with the rattan table.

a much better mate with this one (I love his rattan jute rug at the entry..  a cool find from Pieces of Time Estate Sale)

and up went the mirror.   We both like it but I still think something’s missing.  He likes it just the way it is.. (the minimalist way)  not too much on the walls… so he wins.. this room is marked DONE!

And lastly, his Bob Marley art arrived.  Cool right!!!

With just two more rooms to complete, Amir is making great progress in his home.  I’m truly happy we are able to work together to create a happy home – thrift style!

Grab your partner, hit the road and do some thrifting.  Online shopping is good, but it’s nothing like hitting the road and venturing out to the unknown.  You never know what you’ll find.  Estate sales, yard sales, thrift stores, and flea markets – they’re out there waiting for you to come shop.  I hope you enjoyed another episode of the Brick Cottage Project and the making of his old house into a home.  Stay tuned for more decor and as always – Happy Hunting while you thrift your house into a home!!

CIAO!!!!

  1. Great steal! LOL.
You and my sister have the same mantra – ‘garage sale / thrift store – hit the BREAKSSSSSSSS’ 😉

    • Lol… then you clearly understand! Yes.. it’s really fun it here.. you never know.. thanks for reading

  2. I tend to see things in thrift shops as dated and no longer “in style”. I am amazed at how you spot second-hand items that are identical to those sold on-line for hundreds of dollars more. Beautiful mirror, lucky son.
