Being a Plant Mom

Hey everyone!  I know you’re probably shocked with 3 posts in one week..lol… I know I am!  But this one I was equally excited to share..so, why wait right?  You know how much I love love love my plants and totally consider myself a bonafide plant mom.  So, when Costa Farms peeped me out to collaborate with them on a plant – you know I was like “YIPPPEEE!!!”  Costa Farms  is a reputable company that has been around since 1961 and is headquartered in Miami, Florida (AKA plant paradise!), and is one of the largest horticultural growers in the world.  (back story}: The founder, Jose Costa Sr., purchased 30 acres south of Miami to grow fresh, vine-ripened tomatoes in the winter and calamondin citrus in the summer (impressive story and you can read more here).  That soon morphed into houseplants, and the Costa Farms family started innovating and introducing new houseplants.  Now, as an avid Lowe’s shopper, I purchased a few of their plants from there and they are all doing well. I was definitely happy to receive their Sterling Silver plant which is part of their Trending Tropicals collection.  I was provided a plant, but all reviews are my own

I thought they’d send me a coupon/voucher to go to my nearest Lowe’s to pick it up, but nooooo, they mailed the plant.  Now guys, I can barely get a plant home in my car without it spilling over and getting dirt in my car (you feel me).  No matter how good I pack it.. some dirt is getting in there.  They packed the plant absolutely perfect and when I opened it, not one leaf was lost.  How about that!!  Look how healthy this plant is.. after transit  (I kid you not)

I read and learned this plant, Sterling Silver Scindapsus (Scindapsus treubii ‘Moonlight’), is a delightfully trendy and easy-to-grow houseplant. A close relative of both pothos (Epipremnum) and philodendron, but much less common and those are very easy to grow.

It has a dark green foliage that bears an elegant silvery sheen on top and it is a slow-growing houseplant.  Since it has vining stems, it can be trained to grow up a trellis, which is great, and this one is already sprouting new stems.  Since this is a relatively uncommon and hard-to-find houseplant, I look forward to watching it grow and blossom  You can read more about it here.

Ok so moving on this new baby in the family – I placed her in the brightest area of my home to join her tropical sisters, who will be happy to welcome her to the family.

As for me.. I’m just going to continue to nurture my babies and keep them happy, so they can continue to make me smile.

Of course as a plant mom I have my handy resourceful books on plants, but Costa Farms website is a quick reference and a great resource to learn more about plants, their names, how to grow them and they offer ideas on how to style your plants and where they are best suited.

and here’s another one

With Spring finally approaching, (at least in my neck of the woods) I’m getting excited about plants and growing the family.  If you are too, look for a nearest dealer of Costa Farms plants and pick one up.   Happy plant shopping everyone!
