Road Tune

I really wasn’t planning to post today, but I was traveling down the road (getting off the grind) and this came on the radio…and next thing I know.. I’m bopping my head, tapping my feet turning the volume up to listen to this song and loving this tune.  Now you know how much I love music and the old Motown classics are so fantastic.. the beat, the lyrics, the sound all makes for good listening music.  I’d not heard this and said to myself “WOW”.. I really like this .. and just wanted to share.

So while I’m cruising and enjoying this tune, thoughts of the sixties popped in my head.  The style of fashion, home decor and how life in the 60’s was like.  After posting about the whimsical beautiful Enid Collins bags, I’m kinda wanting another one, but I want to catch one at an estate sale rather than online.. and you know that’ll be just like trying to find “A Needle In a Haystack” lol.. I’m on the hunt for either of these two..  (because you know how much I love flowers)

and you know how slow I can be with things… heeeheeeheeee

Ok, so… , I’m just going to share a few sixties images that caught my eye for your perusing pleasure as you’re sitting there reading this, tapping your feet and bopping to the music. I’ve always loved the Supremes style of dressing – they were such a “class act”

Home decor back then had clean straight angles..  A classic mod-style and do you see the price of this entire set….Oh my goodness!!!! WOW!!! (and this style has made a great comeback – thanks to Madmen)

Here’s another cheerful living room that is absolutely mod-fab (I could definitely see me living here.. do you see those lamps and chairs!!)

Notice how this design style has made a comeback (the polka-dot walls)

So can you imagine, listening to this song, wearing your mod outfit, headed to your glamorously decorated 1960’s ranch style home, riding down the highway in this..

with the top down  ..

We caught this guy riding in his car (the same day we were stepping out with our Enid Collins bag) and he was so nice to let us photograph his car.  Shouting out a big  “Thank you” to the nice gentlemen 🙂

I hope you enjoyed my “Throwback to the Sixties” moment.. Until next time Lovies… smooches.!

In the Bag

You ever see someone with something and you wish you had bought it too?  Well that’s what happened when my sis came with her Enid Collins bag. It was the perfect tote bag for her tablet, cellphone, mp3 and cords (her electronics carryall vacation bag).  She bought the bag from a man who came by the I2I 49-Mile Yard Sale we had back in June. He had a bunch of vintage purses his grandmother owned and he wanted to sell them.. She and I zeroed in on the same bag, but I told her to go ahead – especially since she saw him first.  Well I forgot all about it and when she walked in with this bag.. I said “boy is that a nice bag”.  This is her Enid Collins bag.. it’s from her Garden Theme collection.   These bags are handcrafted and made in America in Texas and each bag has its own personality.  You can read more about Enid Collins and her bags here.

Could you believe she scooped this beauty for $20.00  ..  in absolutely great condition.

At this point I knew what I wanted to buy with my gift card I won two weeks ago from Elle at Splendid Habitat.  After searching for about 2 hours on Ebay and Etsy and wanting buy about 20 of them.. I narrowed down my purchase.. I’ll call it my Enid Coach bag 🙂  .. But seriously its from her Carriage Collection.

I love the stage coach look (kinda like Cinderella’s carriage)

These bags are so darling.  We love how they are painted and then jeweled to capture the details of the designs.  These bags have very sturdy bottoms made of wood.

Of course they’re not your everday use bag.. but they sure are excellent for that occassional use..and when you want to look a bit fancy.. and if you’re toting modern day electronics in these gorgeous beauties, it really makes a vintage fashion statement.

We are very happy with our new bags.. It’s definitely a “Twinsation” going on here..

Don’t we look happy!!

It Went Fast

Time sure flies when you’re having fun!!  Here’s the gang, boarded and headed to the ship..It seems like I just said my Bon Voyages to you… geeez –did vacation go fast-LOL!!  Our family reunion was a major hit and everyone had the most enjoyable time.  As a member of the planning committee – we try to make sure everyone has a good time (although sometimes its not an easy task) but this time we did it!  Yayyy  :-)..  See all the happy faces..lol..  We boarded, we ate, we partied, we sun-bathed, we partied, relaxed, we partied, rested and partied some more.  They say it’s better in the Bahamas.. and Yea.. I kinda agree.. cause we had a ball.  Just thought I’d share a few memorable photos of our good time..

Here are my sons, ready for action with their aunt and cousin

That’s moi.. with Amir (my youngest)

These are the men in my life.. Clowning around – trying to look hip… chuckles.

Look at that water..  they’re ready to hit the waves!

Can’t leave Gma out.. these boys know they love her

Cousins showin’ love.. heeeheee (these four ..hung tough)

One of our intentions was to get up early to watch the sun rise.. do some meditation, while thanking God for his many blessings… while we did thank him..but getting up was the hardest part, but thankfully some of the younger folks took care of it the best way.. they stayed up all night to watch it come up and caught the shot..  and what beautiful pictures they took.

Ahhhhhh…….. can you feel the relaxation and tranquility….  🙂  ….  That sums up our wonderful time, and now it’s back to the RiseNGrind.. but some of the items we had in the gift bags were these lovely coasters we had ordered from Sonya Nutter of Just-A-Nutter Favor.

It’s a perfect reminder for me while I’m at work, to reflect back as I keep my Pandora on the Bob Marley station reminiscing on the Caribbean vacation.

Every year we also include a House Music mixed cd (it’s a Jersey thing) and we had these fantastic cd covers made by Johanna Lewis of Perpetual Pixels

Thinking about all the fun and laughter.. spending time with my family and enjoying every moment.  I hope I didn’t bore you too much, but I wanted to share some of my personal happiness with you.  If you ever want to book a reunion or group, we used the most friendliest (and patient) agent Christine Austin of A&B Travel Services (her contact info is abtravel@att.net), her motto, “We Make Travel Dreams Happen” and that she did.. Thanks Chris for all your help.

Now back to the grind.. until next time… Smooches…

“REMINDER” – Garden Contest

The contest is almost over ..just one more week to cast your vote ..  If you haven’t voted yet, please take a few moments to vote  🙂   I really appreciate you taking the time and voting for me.

Hello, hello, hello!!  Friday is here and I’m just like you — “HAPPY”!!   I’m going to make this a quick post and ask for your help. I’ve done a lot of work in my garden and it’s that time of year for the annual Garden Contest hosted by Wingards Nursery.  I entered my Garden Diva Chick two years ago and won  (that really excited me).  Well, I ordered the beautiful head planter and got her just in time and found a beautiful plant to finish her off.   I decided to enter it in the Garden Contest and could use your vote.  It takes four simple steps to vote.  All you have to do is click this link:  log into Facebook, find my planter, click like and that’s it!   See.. so easy.. So, could you take a few seconds help UrvintageGirl win and give me your vote? 🙂   Just in case you missed the post, this is the picture I entered in the contest.

I think she deserves to win…   don’t you??   On that note – I hope you guys have a very, very, enjoyable weekend and I’ll see you next week!!  Smooches!

Off the Grid

Hello everyone!! In the words of Olivia Pope – Your girl is going off the grid for a bit.  This week starts our family reunion and I’m totally happy.  I’m always happy when my family gets together – we have so much fun and laughter.. but this particular reunion started me smiling earlier than usual.. Why?? Because this year is a special reunion…. We will be on board of Royal Caribbean’s Enchantment of the Sea cruise ship headed to the sunny island of the Nassau Bahamas!  Friday was my last day at the grind and I was happy and decided to take a smiley-selfie..

I’ll get better at doing that someday..lol.. but yes, right now all I can think about is sun, relaxation, fun and food.

And a week before the cruise I learned I won a survey contest that was hosted by Elle Gibson who blogs at Splendid Habitat.. you can guess I was doubly smiling.  If you’ve never visited her blog, by all means stop over and enjoy reading.. she’s really another inspiration.  Once again.. thanks Elle!  When I return, I’ll show you the goodie I purchased with my gift certificate.  🙂

Also another surprise I got was my twin found some lights for the rest haven and believe me.. I’m so happy about that.. so needless to say, we put them up, and decided to have some margaritas and toast it up on our last night home.  Thanks to Amir for serving up the drinks

Cheers to you!! bfr9

It looks so nice at night.. ahhhhh.. we really enjoyed our evening in there relaxing before our voyage..

We’ll all be up early and headed to Florida to board.. So I’ll see you when we get back..

So while I’m gone, I hope you have an enjoyable week, and I’ll talk to you soon…

Smooches and Bon Voyage!!!!!
