Inspired By!

Hey, hey!! I hope all is well with you and you’re keeping cool.. It’s been blazing here in SC.. and it’s not even Summer yet — Good grief.. the HEAT IS ON!  I’ve been doing a bit of relaxing since the yard sale last week and started reading the Ebook by Kia Salter @ House of KTS.    I’m so glad she created this to share her tips of the trade with us.  Thanks Girl – So far so good!!   Then there was another quick project I wanted to get done – which I did and want to share with you.  I know you’re probably wondering “Where is the freaking chair??? LOL!! I know – I know… but my instructor took ill again.. poor thing.. she suffers badly with rheumatoid arthritis and has not been up to par.. and we are down to the last stretch.  But she says next week so.. in the meantime, I’m busying myself in the garden and other little projects.   If you remember I had this old lamp around and used it for a quick hat stand to display my vintage hats earlier…

I thought I’d use it in the boutique but then another idea hit me…I’ve been wanting to make this planter ever since I saw it posted here.  While cleaning out the garage for the yard sale I found some of the glass shades that didn’t sell before and bingo!  It hit me.. do the project.  I used the super glue E6000 and boy does that stuff work!

I used a Rustoleum spray paint in mint green and lime green to give it a new look.  Attached the shades with the glue and filled with dirt and plants.. and voila!  It’s a Planterabra now!

Planterabra

I used plants I already had around – and these are succulents so they won’t be needing much water (and if you’re new here you can see the transformation of the bistro set here)

So basically this project only cost the price of the glue..

It can even be a really cool centerpiece as well for a garden party.  This project was extremely easy and I’m glad The Red Head gave me an even better inspiration on how to use this old lamp.  I’ve been wanting a new edition to the She-Rest Haven and this was the perfect added touch.

It sits on the corner shelf adding just a touch of elegance to blend with the bohemian ambiance

I’m glad I decided to hang the macrame planter (another thrifty find for $1.00) in there.

This plant here, I have to give myself a pat on the back about.. It’s my pineapple plant – grown from the top of a pineapple.  I tried my luck last year and so far – its hanging in there.. so – Woohooo to me!!

I just did a few simple changes and this Haven is ready – so let the CHILLAXIN’ BEGIN!!

(I’m contemplating on painting the cushions… another blog-buddy did hers and they look great – so I’m thinking.. will keep you posted on it of course) …  But for now.. tah-tah… and remember Go for it! Create and get Inspired..Smooches!

No Bulb Needed

Hey there!!  Just a real quick share –  I was so excited about the – I’ll call it – Breakfast at Tiffany’s – inspired Chandelier I caught on sale at Lowe’s that I forgot to show you what else I picked up.

This was $2.00 – not sure what I’ll do with it.. but I liked the shape and the thickness of the glass.  Pretty cool.. not bad for two bucks

and this was $6.75 —  this one.. I freaking Love!

Since I did not have anything in mind to use it for I just got one – till I got home and realized what I could use it for —–

(I could kick myself for not getting 2 or 3 or 4 uggghhhhh!!)   Did you ever do that???

Swing Along

I can’t believe how fast summer is going.  It seems like yesterday I worked on this corner of my porch, but it’s been over two weeks.  I finally got the paint for the swing on other half.  I found it in the “oops” section at Lowes.. It’s a pretty mint green.    Here’s the swing that needs updating.  I bought it a few years ago at a yard sale for $20.00.  I never painted it but realize it’s time for a new look.

So, I cranked up some mood music to get me going and let the paint party begin.  Two hours later and this is the new look:

Added a few extra items to cozy up the space and here it is completed;

The chain and iron arms were spray painted silver metallic.  The little marble top table (belonged to my belated grandmother) use to look like this but was updated with a quick white spray paint.  It use to have a glass top but I broke it..(uggghhh) luckily I kept this marble piece that was on another table that has been disgarded.. (the hoarder in me) – so I married the two and they look pretty good together.  The blue bottle (Italian made glass) was a Goodwill find for $2.75.

It’s a perfect place to kick your sneakers off and gently swing while reading a magazine

The wicker stool was picked up at a yard sale while I was in Jersey last week  for $3.00

The vintage macrame plant holder was a thrift store find for $2.00.   I’ve been contemplating to have the caribbean  art framed.. I decided I will once I find the right frame for the right price.

The only thing left is to find the perfect light fixture to complete the look.. I’m still hunting and will be happy when I find it.   But in the meantime, I’ll just swing along in another cozy (thrifted) space.

Simple Change

Just taking advantage of the simple things to make changes around the house.  I visited Lowes and came across these plants on clearance.. so I scooped up two.. not bad for $6.00..

I placed them on the dining table using my candle holders as the stand for them.. added a small white saucer to keep them balanced..(I’ll probably paint them later)

A simple thrift store vase became a planter for another clearance plant I picked up as well for $2.49.   Sure, I could have kept it clear –  but why –  ??   So, with paint on hand, I’ll make use of it..

Besides the pastel green/silver matches the wall and blinds (which I painted silver years ago)

I spruced up the kitchen table by changing the tablecloth.. Made a new one with fabric leftover from the  pillow cushions for the chill-out spot.  I’m extremely fond of leopard print and floral fabrics.  The kitchen chairs are all different but to synchronize them I added chair scarves (which were made from a curtain sheer).  The leopard tablecloth made a nice simple change.

Sometimes, it doesn’t take a lot of effort just to make a few little changes to break up the norm.   Using items around the house is always the first start..and if you’re like me.. I’m sure you’ve got quite a few things to re-create a look.  So go look around to see what you find and share your look with me.
