Just when I thought my $2.00 Tuesday was over, your vintage girl struck again at the yard sale. It’s an item that I would have NEEEVER thought to buy from the store, because, it just wouldn’t have occured to me as … Continue reading

It’s Shop Time
Hey everyone, hope all is well. It’s been a few days since we’ve spoken but your Vintage Girl has been busying herself. Going through boxes and boxes of that word we use “stuff”. It was like opening up Pandora’s box. Uggghhh.. As I was going through all the “stuff” that’s been stored for months/years I realized how bad I had it..I’m a hoarder.. There! I confessed! chuckles… But it’s been contained – out of sight- in my storage building. I guess you’re wondering why I decided to open Pandora..Well, it’s good news -Your vintage girl along with her posse Amina and Renee are back in business. Shop business – that is. “Pieces of Time” which was the name of our antique store has opened a booth in Summit, New Jersey. Yipppeeee! We are really excited about it. So I took the trip to New Jersey this past weekend to help set up. So this post is to showcase what we displayed in our first go round.
This little lady is Lefton China – we call her Cinderella -and she is very vintage..
Next to her are the daintiest invitation cards neatly tucked inside the limoge mail holder with a matching letter opener. The lovely pink coasters and pearl necklaces add to the princess theme.
A mixture of vintage and slightly used handbags grace the top shelf, while hand-crafted crystal butterflies and candle wick dippers are underneath. You can see the butterflies & wick dippers up close by visiting A perfect day to dream. On her website you will find all the beautiful designs created by LindaG.
It was a challenge to put this Moorish-American chalkware statue in the display case (oh-so loving it)
This moorish head base is made from ceramic.
Vintage caribbean art from Haiti adds a colorful island backdrop
And the boy eating strawberries makes an excellent garden showpiece
This matching light set is very lovely..The set is two wall sconces and ceiling fixture
An antique babydoll sits happily in her carriage
Even though it’s not a huge space, but it’s good for us to start with..(again) Here is me and my twin – Amina
And this is Amina and Renee…and together we make {Pieces of Time}
I wish I hadn’t forgotten my camera because I would have gotten much better photos, but the camera on my phone didn’t do too bad.. I hope you enjoyed “shopping” with me and if you see anything you like, let me know.. because it’s all “For Sale”
I Copied!
I saw a post from Home for Now featuring Gold Dipped Wine Glasses. So your “girl gone crazy with paint” decided to give it a try. Guess what?? I did it and liked it.. I used some $0.50 cents glasses – just in case I goofed – I would’t feel so bad.. But I actually scored because they turned out great…They actually match the ice bucket I’ve had for years …..
It was quite simple.. I taped them.. sprayed two coats of metallic gold paint..(let dry between coats) and sprayed with a clear polyurethane.. let dry and hand washed them..
Here are my pair gold dipped glasses
I decided to use a 3rd one to create a glitter glass candle holder
This was my first time working with glitter spray .. I think I started something.. because I like it 🙂
They all look pretty elegant – so much so, that I think it’s time to open the bar and show you my family heirloom – a vintage “Creme de la creme” wine cabinet. This wine cabinet is a rare find. I have to pay homage to my dear sweet grandmother, we lovingly referred to her as “Mother Dear”. Mother Dear had this cabinet covered with a tablecloth for years. I never knew what was underneath because she had plants sitting on top. After she passed, we cleared her belongings, I removed the cloth and found the hidden jewel she had been hiding for many years. I asked my father if I could have it.. and he said “yes – of course”.. I was so happy to have gotten something of hers. I brought it home, had it professionally refinished (it had some type of paint on it) to restore it to its natural beauty and it’s been a cherished item ever since.
See the beautiful wood grain
I’ll show you what makes this unique… It’s how it opens and closes.. The top lifts up and the inside moves up and the top lays flat
To create a serving area
The top stores the glasses
The bottom stores the liqueur
The gold-dipped stemware and the glitter-glass candle holder looks fab here
Mother Dear picked a beautiful time piece.. because this baby will never go out of style.. (In fact, I bet there will be a replica made of this someday)..
So I thank you Mother Dear – Every time I look at this – I smile and reflect on the fond memories of her and how much I love her.
Darling Little Boxes
If you’re like me.. I tend to carry a few Advils in my purse.. cause I never know who’s gonna give me a headache.. chuckles. Well this post is to show you how to carry them in style.. Vintage Style – that is… Ode to the loveable pill box… I just adore carrying this little darling in my purse.. and when someone needs a pill and they see me pull that classy little box out my purse… Ohhhh how excited they get when they see it.. 🙂 Saying little compliments like “aren’t you all fancy-smancy with the pills..” and my simple response is (in my playfully coy tongue) … “Don’t hate” – smile followed by….chuckles…. Let me show you my darling little boxes – one is a pill box and the other – unbelievable – but guess what.. A contact lens case… (Those Vintage ladies had the best accessories). Pill boxes and lens cases nowadays are just hard plastic with no class or finesse about them.. smh.. oh well .. I got mine and I’m happy about that..
Aren’t they darling? All jeweled out looking fancy-smancy.. and take a look inside…. fully equipped for the necessary items
Of course there’s a mirror inside the case to use when taking out the lens They thought of everything.
Now, say I’m laying in bed and need my pills, well this little beauty sits on my nightstand..
When you open the case the pills are stored inside the lid bottom with a little cover marked “pills”. Also, you notice there’s no glass to take the pill …well- no need because this is a “two-in-one”.. a pill box and a cup… (I know you’re trying to figure it out.. but look close….. it rises…
How neat is that…. !!!!
Then collapses back down when you’re all done
Who’d ever thought that taking pills and removing contact lens could be so classy….It’s just little things like this that makes me appreciate the finer things in life 🙂 and it’s simply- as always…… VivaLaVintage!!! Ciao!
ps…. If you care to purchase your little “touch of class” pill box, let me know.. I’m sure Pieces of Time can accommodate your desire..
For the Love of Gloves
Where are they??? Where are they????? If those words sound all too familiar when looking for your gloves then this post is definitely a must read.. 🙂
The feel of winter has finally arrived…. just when I thought I was going to get away with wearing a coat, hat, gloves, scarf … all the things to bundle up to keep warm. Well, I’ve managed to keep myself pretty organized with all the wintry items to have easy access to. One particular item I’d like to showcase in this post is the forgotten Glove Box. Did you know about these????? I sure didn’t….
It never failed, every year, I’d have to go scrounging around looking for my gloves.. Well a few years ago I decided to purchase of this little box to keep my gloves.. I didn’t know such an item existed until I started perusing antique stores for Victorian items.. Then I found this one made of milk glass.. It was perfect!! I loved how it was designed..very intricately detailed..
My gloves fit perfectly tucked inside – and at the end of each winter season.. I make sure I tuck them back inside so I can find them again
This box hold three pairs of gloves, but if you’re like me.. I like having several different pairs.. So off I went hunting for another one.. and came across another lovely one..
This one is made of wood covered in embossed paper .. Equally as lovely as the first. Every year I know exactly where my gloves are..
Having lovely boxes like these really helps keep me organized
So just in case you’re like me… getting one of these boxes just might help you too!
