One Room Challenge: Week 4 Office Refresh

Hey everyone.. Ready for another update on the One Room Challenge?  Can you believe we’re 4 weeks into this challenge.. time has flown by and we’re all pushing along.  I’m so amazed with all the other participants and how their designs are coming along.  It’s making me want to join the Spring Challenge.  Although this wasn’t a huge project, but knowing others are involved – it actually helped motivate me to get things done.  It’s funny how we can challenge ourselves to do something and it gets done, but otherwise, we’d let it be dormant.  But – whatever it takes to motivate me.. I’m all for it.  Ok, so moving along and no more babbling, but if your new here – welcome to my page and and if you need to catch up with what’s going on you can do so here, here, and here.   My Saturday night date was a threesome.. me, paint, and Pandora (sidenote: the Randy Crawford station- check it out.. wonderful music) burning the midnight oil to get this done.  I had to add one more coat of white paint and that had to dry and I needed to get it done because Chris was coming to install the shelves on Sunday.  I literally only have the weekends to devote to this project, so I had to crunch my time.  Guys, this was my first time doing a stencil and I may be pushing it to say – it’ll be my last -lol.. too darn tedious – not to mention.. to be redundant – I hate painting.  With all the white walls, I tested the door frame to see it how it would look painted black – and I loved it.  After loving the black trim at my son’s house – I’m truly digging it and considering adding it to the adjoining family room.

As you see I made several blunders, but after the first row I realized, I need to use a sponge and dab the paint in the holes and it wouldn’t give me the color run or wall blemish.

By the second row I got the hang of it.  I used a small craft paintbrush to touch up the wall.  (btw ignore the few imperfections in the wall because I was not going to sand, spackle and fix them..  ain’t nobody got time for that!)

All in all, I’m happy I did the stencil – it’s something I’ve been wanting to try and this small space was perfect to give it a whirl.

Here are the shelves after being painted metallic gold using Valspar Devine Karat.

I like how the grain in the wood comes through the gold paint

Chris came as promised to hang the shelves and even had a wonderful idea to cap the front of the existing shelves to give them a finished look.

Great idea Chris!! (I couldn’t get him to look this way – he’s a little camera shy)

Here’s the wall with the floating shelves.  With the additional shelving it gives me more room to display some items along with an option to organize myself.

(who am I kidding – I’m going to style those badboys with some of my cute collectibles..lol).. Next up – the faux marble contact paper, under the cabinet lighting and artwork installed.  I’m feeling more and more relieved about accomplishing this project.  So just to recap about the challenge, you can see the schedule below and visit their site to see all of the participants.

    • 😊 hey veronica thanks for popping over to check in me..I appreciate that so much. I can’t wait to see your fabulous laundry room

  1. This space started to look fabulous already! Love the stencil and the gold paint on your shelving! Can’t wait until the reveal day!

    • Hey besa! I remember your stencil and it was freaking awesome! That’s what motivated me but girlfriend yours was even more smaller, hats off to you!! Thanks for following my progress

    • Wow! Hey Tina! Thank you so much for visiting 😊 .. since you’re a pattern queen, you’d love this one! Thanks for your compliment and checking on me

  2. The gold shelves really stand out! The walls look really good behind those shelves! I love how you’re putting this all together. It’s really fun to watch this process.

    • Awwwww thank you Michelle!! I was worried about that but I’m glad it worked out .. I truly appreciate your compliment and following along

  3. Those gold shelves are so pretty! The angle of the photos vs the in person view may differ, so the following comment may not be valid. The light fixture seems to blend into the stencil wall pattern now. Maybe looking up at it, this is not the case.

    • Hey ruth!! Thanks! But you’re right.. it does blend in with the pattern (which was another concern), I just didn’t want to buy another, so I’m adding additional strip lighting to help with the view..(youI’ll see in the next post) I think it helps it a bit.. (at least until I find another cheapy lol)

I enjoy reading your comments
