In the Bag

You ever see someone with something and you wish you had bought it too?  Well that’s what happened when my sis came with her Enid Collins bag. It was the perfect tote bag for her tablet, cellphone, mp3 and cords (her electronics carryall vacation bag).  She bought the bag from a man who came by the I2I 49-Mile Yard Sale we had back in June. He had a bunch of vintage purses his grandmother owned and he wanted to sell them.. She and I zeroed in on the same bag, but I told her to go ahead – especially since she saw him first.  Well I forgot all about it and when she walked in with this bag.. I said “boy is that a nice bag”.  This is her Enid Collins bag.. it’s from her Garden Theme collection.   These bags are handcrafted and made in America in Texas and each bag has its own personality.  You can read more about Enid Collins and her bags here.

Could you believe she scooped this beauty for $20.00  ..  in absolutely great condition.

At this point I knew what I wanted to buy with my gift card I won two weeks ago from Elle at Splendid Habitat.  After searching for about 2 hours on Ebay and Etsy and wanting buy about 20 of them.. I narrowed down my purchase.. I’ll call it my Enid Coach bag 🙂  .. But seriously its from her Carriage Collection.

I love the stage coach look (kinda like Cinderella’s carriage)

These bags are so darling.  We love how they are painted and then jeweled to capture the details of the designs.  These bags have very sturdy bottoms made of wood.

Of course they’re not your everday use bag.. but they sure are excellent for that occassional use..and when you want to look a bit fancy.. and if you’re toting modern day electronics in these gorgeous beauties, it really makes a vintage fashion statement.

We are very happy with our new bags.. It’s definitely a “Twinsation” going on here..

Giving You Heads Up!

A few months ago I joined a Facebook group “It’s a Garden Thing“.  I truly adore being a part of this group of friendly people who love their gardens and sharing them with the cyber world.  In this group there was a lady showing some beautiful head planters. I was mesmerized on how beautiful they were. My motto is plants are people too.. green people and they need you to nourish, groom and sometimes even talk to them.  Head planters almost makes you feel like you’re talking face to face with your plants.  Looking at their faces with empty heads makes you think, what kind of hairdo would complete their look (you know how we women love our hair to be right 🙂  – it sets the tone)  “Head Planters” give your plants the personality they deserve.  I did some research for head planters.. here are some favorites I came across:

This African Queen head planter is beautiful.  I love the beaded detail along the side of her face

You can so much fun with them creating a new look simply by changing her hair. Are you intrigued yet? Well, I couldn’t stand not having a beautiful planter so I asked who, where, & how do I get one.  Low and behold, they were being made by a group member. I contacted her and she showed me some of the ones she had left. The minute I saw this lady.. I screamed.. she’s the one!!  I want her – so ladies (and gents) …. I’d like for you to meet Elfredah..

Here’s the clinker.. I have an aunt name Alfreda.. how coincidental was that.  I couldn’t wait to get her and settled into her new home with me and my green family. She arrived and  I went to the nursery to find her new hairdo. The plant I found is called Emina.. and guess what.. my twin’s name is Amina.. (both pronounced the same) so you know this planter was meant to be for me and this is her new look all dressed up!

Isn’t she a beauty… I absolutely love it!!  On Friday’s Feature post, I’m going to introduce to you the HeadMaker Lady.  So I hope you join me in getting to know a little about Cynthia and I’ll be showing you more of the lovely ladies she created.. So stay tuned!    You may want to order one for yourself.  Smooches ?

Pieces of Time

Hello there!  I hope you all enjoyed Thanksgiving and spending time with your loved ones.  My frenzy 4-day whirlwind came and went so fast and as much moving around I did- I had hoped I lost the 5 pounds I gained from the turkey day dinner- again – there goes that wishful thinking  …..  l0l.   I really miss my weekly posts and connecting with you guys – so now I can get back to all that fun and thank you for not forgetting me.

Friday was the official countdown and we hustled and bustled to organize, tag, hanging and straightening.  The front of the boutique looks quite pretty now (especially with my beautiful niece, Nadiyah, in front).  We also started the #ShopSmall campaign.

I’d like to share the grand opening and pictures of the shop.  The weather was perfect for the ribbon cutting and we had quite a few people join us with smiles and excitement about the shop.

Our town mayor, Billy Hollingsworth, along with councilwoman, Cassie Fowler gave me the warmest welcome and thanked me for bringing my business to Whitmire.  I’m very happy to be a member of the Economic Development Board and to be able to work with some really nice people.

After cutting the ribbon, the onlookers were welcomed in to browse, shop, and partake in light refreshments.

We had a free raffle for a chance to win this custom framed artwork by HoeMama, a South Carolina artist who mixes art and mother nature to create some beautiful paintings.  You can view more of his works here.

As part of our effort in supporting local businesses and other entrepreneurs, we are carrying a line of homemade hand scrubs by ASG Handmade Designs.  These are made by a young lady, Jovana Castro, whom I truly admire for her creativity.  Her scrubs are absolutely wonderful and leave your hands feeling soft and smooth.  Not only does she create hand scrub, but she also makes greeting cards as well, which we will carry.  These nicely decorated jars are from her Pomegranate collection and they sell for $10.00ea.  If you’d like to order, please contact me.

Here is a sample of her greeting cards.  You can visit here to see more of her handcrafted beautiful cards.

We are pleased to be selling her products in Pieces of Time and wish her much success with her line of creations.

All in all, it was a fantastic day and I even was interviewed by our county newspaper (how exciting that was!)  Here are a few pictures of items around the shop, some of which sold that day (yipppeeee) – I’m glad I caught these pictures..

Of course I’ll be moving things around, adding pieces, putting more items around, but that’s the fun part – re-redecorating..  🙂

In all the excitement, I’m so glad we were able to snag a photo us..(I just love this her)

As we closed for the day, we reflected back and was pleased with the outcome

Then to my surprise on Monday, looky here!!   We made the front page of the paper!!

That put another smile on my face.. 🙂    You can read the article here.  I’m thanking you again for all your well wishes and encouragement and I look forward to sharing more moments in Pieces of Time with you.

Now,  I can finally get busy on another makeover… I have a table in mind that needs a new look.. wish me luck on this project, and of course.. you’ll be the first to see.  Take care everyone.. and I’ll see you soon.  Peace and blessings to you.. Smooches!!

Friday Finds #2

Hey there! It’s Friday and I have a 3-day weekend – so you know I’m HAPPPYY!! Clap along if you feel like that’s what you want to do! Hey!

Chuckles.. just thought I’d throw that in – so you catch my drift..

Today’s Friday Finds were not found by me but by a friend.  I was visiting my friend Elizabeth Claytor who owns a Bed & Breakfast in Chester, SC.  I love her big historic home.  You can view the lovely Inn Upon Moon River Plantation Bed & Breakfast  here, and if you ever plan to visit SC, by all means this is the perfect place to stay.  Elizabeth and husband David are the best hosts and you feel the warmth of their home and personality soon as you enter.  Elizabeth is another thrifty shopper like myself.   She made a few changes since the last time I had visited her and when I complimented her that’s when she told me about her great finds.. I think she has me beat!!   Take a look at her Fab Finds –

She stopped at the Goodwill Outlet (I never knew Goodwill had an outlet) in Charlotte.. and that’s where she found her excellent finds.. So get ready to say OMG!!

She found this chair.. (as is).. for $2.00  LOL.. I just couldn’t believe it…WHATTTTT!!!!  She YES!!!!  $2.00 whole dollars..

Really!!! look at this chair…  $2.00 — smh…

Then she found this entertainment cabinet for $4.00  — GeeezzzzLouise—- I’m floored… WOW!!! Is  all I could say….

For $4.00  … heck I’d like the natural wood look too!

Then she found this  storage chest for another whopping $2.00…!!!!! All in one visit..    I was completely flabbergasted over her FAB Finds..  I think she just put me to shame..  But boy do I LOVE IT!!!    Like I said.. it’s the thrill of  hunt!

All three pieces ithis picture was a total of $8.00 .. Can you scream WOW!!!!!!!!!!      Like I did!

As they say birds of a feather flock together.. I met Elizabeth at my garage sale.  She was passing through town and stopped because she heard my blues music playing (I always play music during yard sales for my shoppers pleasures.. music and shopping is very therapeutic) and we began talking.  She asked to tour my house which I was happy to oblige and she loved it.  She began telling me all about her blues themed Bed & Breakfast in Chester and I got so excited – I went there and it’s been a wonderful friendship ever since..  I love those guys… .

P.S  If you ever want to plan a getaway to perfect small town big on southern hospitality – visit Chester and stay at the Moon River Bed & Breakfast… Tell them Jamala sent you  :-)…   (let me know and I’ll stop in to say hello, too)

And as David always  “Peace”

I hope all of you have an ABSOLUTELY PERFECT MOTHER’S DAY!!!!!!

Introducing Peggy

Hey Yall! (in my southern slang) remember I told you I would introduce you to Peggy Brickles, the local artist who did the fantastic artistry on my headboards.  Well today is that day.  Peggy is a sweet lady who developed her love of art by working with her daughter.  She’s been doing this  for about 5 years and simply enjoys her pasttime of dabbling in paint.  She has a boutique located on Church Street in the charming, small town of Whitmire, SC to showcase her designs.   I had the opportunity to sit and chat with Peggy and also take pictures of her fabulous work to expose to all my viewers.  So, sit back relax and enjoy the tour of her shop.

These are the lovely Palmetto tree glasses that caught my eye at the auction.  They are part of a service set for 8 with matching plates, water goblets, cups and saucers.    I really like the Palmetto tree “Welcome” sign painted on ceramic tile..

She also had a simple serving of pansies in grass painted on the wine glasses with matching plates

This technique of the black and white candle holders were painted using rubber bands (how nifty of an idea was that!)

This is window display with small glasses of spring flowers painted on them (gets me ready for that summer garden party).  She even painted the lampshade

If your serving drinks on the deck, southern iced tea would taste so refreshing in these purple palmetto  tree glasses.

Here’s another lovely spring painting done on slate  (and she’ll even paint your family name -or whatever wording you prefer- on it)

Featured here is another painted design she created

The darling flower pots are perfect for the mother-daughter gardeners

Or if you like to have kitchen signs to showcase your love of the “Java”.. she painted these palette pleasers to display in your kitchen..

Or if roosters are your thang for that country kitchen.. check out this cool cock that she painted..  (I love it!)

along with all these other country kitchen items to complete your kitchen decor… oh and a nice little laundry sign to hang by the washer & dryer..(gotta do laundry)

And those who have a man cave – she’s got your rules written down in black & white..chuckles..

For the bird lovers, here’s some beautifully painted birdhouse

This desk and chair were saved from the dumpster and she restored and painted her paisley funky design that attracts the colorful eye.

and for the pastel lovers (like me) – I just adore how she painted the block pattern on these wooden chairs

Now, that you’ve seen all the wonderful designs created by Peggy, I have to show the lady with the smile who would greet you the warmest welcome when you come into her shop

or you can contact by email or phone if you see something you’d like to order

It’s a wonderful world and I love to see it through the designs painted by artists.  Supporting local artist and local talent is the core of what keeps America the beautiful.
