Make Me Over Monday – Part 5

Hope you had a fantastic, happy dance weekend. I worked on another project for Jamil’s apartment. I had this old wine rack with a butler’s tray that’s been needing a bit of TLC. It was one of those “you never know purchases” from a yard sale ions ago. Can’t recall how much, but one thing for sure.. it wasn’t much.

I figured he could use it for his place….(better off there than in the garage collecting dust.. )  then I googled the cost of some them – wow.. I’m really saving him money..(but happy to do it)

Of course I used good ole spray paint to bring it back to life.  I chose antique gold as the color of choice.. besides it’ll go better in his apartment.

Added a stencil on top…

I’m passing his great-grandmother’s vintage shot glasses on to him.

along with the gold-dipped glasses I made a few months ago

Of course I had to start him off with a bottle of wine for his first toast … chuckles..

All in all….   He liked it

I’m happy I was able to move one more item out the building :).   Have a wonderful week my friends..

A Quick Fix

It was a hot, hot, hot day and I decided to work on this “whatever thingy”  I  found a while ago.  It was a dumpster dive found item.  I’m guessing it was once a bar stool –  what do you think??

I figure…why let it go to the dumpster.. ???  It’s got good bones so I’ll give it a new look..  simple, quick & cheap.  So here it is with a new look as a new function.   Ohhhh the power of paint!!!!

Pretty simple and now I have another plant stand (for now)… Who knows what it will be later.. I love the triangular shape of the legs.   The tips received a dip in gold.

After painting it I added a pretty tile for the topper.  It’s not grouted yet. I found the tile at Lowe’s on the clearance rack for $2.50.  It was pretty enough to use.  I may grout it later, I just didn’t want to buy any grout for this small project and it sits around collecting dust – never to be used again.  But, in the mean time.. It’ll do just fine like this.

I’m sprucing up my porch and it sits perfect in the corner

I’m glad it didn’t make it to the dump. :).    Have you saved anything from the dumpster pile lately?  If so, share your story.  Until next time.. See Ya!

Make Me Over Monday -Part 4

Hello there!! I hope all is well with everyone…I’ve had a productive week and got quite a bit accomplished.  I’m in the midst of preparing for our town’s big 49-mile yard sale.. I hope the weather holds up because it’s going to be a lot to shop for.   So, if you’re interested.. by all means come pay us a visit.   Well, I have a fantastic makeover to show you today..I really like how it turned out..   I’ve had this bistro set for about 14 years.  I was going to sell it at the yard sale but decided not to – glad I didn’t.   Here is the table.. before

The chairs are equally bad.   The bad weather mixed with birds took its toll on them. The set is vintage wrought iron.  I adore scrolled wrought iron.. that’s what attracted me to the set.

I decide to paint the set and give it a whole new look.  I could’t make up my mind as to what color to paint so..I chose a two-tone color.

I was going to attempt to do the cushions myself, but I realize my short comings  and a seamstress – I am not- so I recruited my dear friend Sylvia, of  S&A Alterations, who happens to be the local seamstress.   She saw the fabric I chose and was excited about my selection.  She got right to working on them and by the end of the week she was calling to say she was finished.  She delivered them (talk about fantastic service ) and we both were excited how they came out.  All though she refused to take a picture.. I talked her into it.. Thank you Sylvia!!!   🙂    You’re the best!!

Got the cushions all screwed in and here is the finished new look!!  Get ready to get excited…    🙂   I think you’e going to like it..  as for me… I LOVE IT!!!

So you see why I chose two-tone paint for the chairs…

I’m sooooooo glad I chose to keep it..

So… what’cha think????    Holla at your Thrifty Gal – If you like it, let me know it – clap your hands !!!  “CLAP, CLAP”

Got my “W”s!!

I’m so excited,  I finally got  “W” monogrammed on the twin headboards- turned window treatment  that were above the master bedroom windows.   They’ve been plain for a while waiting for me to get my nerves up to try doing it myself.

A few weeks back our town had an auction and few people donated some items for the charity event.  There were a pair of painted Palmetto tree wine glasses donated for the silent auction.  They were really nice and I was told a local artist painted them.  Come to find out the talented artist has a shop right across the street from my house (duuuhhh)  boy did I overlook that hidden jewel.  I’m going to introduce you to Ms. Peggy Brickles very soon.   But moving along with my excitement.  I asked her if she does stenciling and she sure does!  So I picked out the letter and gave her a feel of how I want it to look.  Thank God she read my mind….   🙂    which I believe is part of the hidden perception of what artists do.. they visualize what you’re trying to convey and bring it to fruition.  OK –  So.. down comes the headboards (omg! can you say dust – chuckles…  ah-choo, ah-choo)  and I took them to her (dust free of course)  for her to work her artist magic on them.    A couple of days later I get a texted picture of the finished product and my jaw dropped..  PERFECT!!!!  It was exactly what I wanted… I couldn’t wait to pick them up.   This is how they turned out.

Didn’t she do a FANTASTIC job!   I applaud Peg for putting the cherry on top of my unfinished sundae (so to speak).   I got them home and up they went..

Even the hubby liked them..

Progress Made

In the midst of clearing papers, I came across some old photos of my yard.  Boy have I made some serious progress over the years. When we first moved into the house I really knew nothing about gardening.  I was a city girl and loved looking at beautiful landscapes but while living in Jersey, I didn’t do any yard work.  When we moved to S.C.  the yard had a clean slate and I figure I’d let my imagination take over.  I have to admit – I’d forgotten how dull and lifeless the yard was, but after looking back at all the hard work put into it, these pictures made me realize how much progress I really made over the years.   Perusing countless garden magazines proved to be worthwhile in helping to inspire me.  Just thought I’d share my progress made with you…   (try not to laugh at the before too much).  My husband preferred it that way because it was easy to cut the grass (mind you he hated moving what little objects there were..)

By gradually taking each section at a time progress was made.. so you know alot of gardening therapy took place out here.  The back breaking agony I went through was all worth it.   The best part about the beds is they’re 80% perennials.  Yes,  I learned real quick over the years to get garden smart.  🙂   So much progress was made and yet – more to still make.  Thankfully I have you to follow along with me to share the journey.   TTYL,
