Falling Lite as a Feather

When I think of feathers, I see the bird in  flight .. soaring high in the sky..    Watching how it soars so high is one of nature’s beauty.   It’s something special about feathers.. I believe it’s a combination of their softness mixed with the array of colors they come in that draws my attention.  I love using them in home decor.   As you listen to the lyrics in this song, they really exemplify the significance of feathers and how they can be used in home decor because not only are they important for birds to fly high, but as the lyrics say.. make your heart lite as a feather so you let nothing hold you down.  When it comes to decorating with feathers- go with the wind  and flow free as a breeze thinking of all the possibilities.

This post is the journey I took using feathers in home decorating.  Here I took a strand of feathers just to outline  pillar candles that were sitting on a charger plate (the left pedestal is a tiffany shade turned upside down  and the right is a old lamp base)

When I made these pillows,  I used feathers as the trim instead of the usual fringe

Feathers flowing from the lampshades adds  extra flare to them

There’s even a feathered wreath greeting you at the door- Open your eyes and appreciate the beauty they bring

This fall and winter  season  incorporate a few in your decor to see the difference they make in your room

Even create a beautiful table centerpiece with feathers in a vase with nuts or pine cones

So as plenty feathers fall from the sky and grace us with their beauty,  you can use your imagination and let it soar with so many possibilities to use in your home

The knobs on the antique wine cabinet caught these beauties (they were christmas tree ornaments but I used them for knob enhancements)

The glass knobs on the French doors caught this feathered ornament

A simple spray of ostrich feathers tucked inside a candle holder – adorns the french vanity

So you see… using feathers in your home decor is simple and lite as a feather

Have I convinced you to tickle your fancy with a few feathers?  I hope so……

But however you choose to use them, let your imagination  soar high and Fall with feathers

Won’t Let Go

For years I’ve had this arrangement of dried roses.  I always like drying out roses when get them.   I’ve had this bunch for so may years (I would say about 8 or 9 years.. )  I know, I know.. that’s a long time to hold on to dried flowers..but this bunch is just a mixture of roses I’ve gotten over the years  and being a sentimental nut.. I just kept them..

But it’s time for them to be either tossed or spruced up..of course I chose the latter.. SPRUCE  THESE UP!

I had more dried hydrangeas left over so I added them to give a pop of color

Looking better already!!

Then, I remembered I bought a big bunch of turkey feathers (I love using feathers) and decided to add them..

They don’t look so dried up after all!   And I’m glad I didn’t have to ditch them

A $2.00 Tuesday

Hey there! This is a quickie that I have to show you.  Last Tuesday I was headed to lunch and passed this little thrift shop – I’ve been meaning to stop in there but every time I passed – it was closed. Well, I got lucky, it was open.  So I walked in (and for the life of me- I can’t figure out why do they all have that same “old” smell..chuckles.. oh well.. moving right along…I did my usual eyescope around the store.. Nothing caught my eye. Just as I was about to head out the door I looked up and caught this plant holder. Remember these..

Well needless to say it was $2.00 and you know it came home with me.  I spruced it up and hung another one of my babies in it.   Love the  shells..  I had a little left over from the plant stand and decided to use it on the pot.

Avocado

And now comes the plant….

not bad huh?? for $2.00 .  Did you ever come across a $2.00 fab find..?  If so, please share.  I would love to hear about it or send me a picture so I feature it on the blog..  till next time…. ta-ta..

No more plant stand

I had this vintage plant stand on my deck for the past two summers and didn’t do anything with it… Well, today…..guess what this old weather rusted stand became?

First I had to do a bit of scraping to get the rust off, and then I used spray paint ( I’m really liking the use of spray paint – because it’s so simple and easy)..  I used a color called Avocado which is a pretty soft green.

The new color is on, the rust is all gone and I like how it looks.  ..

Do you think you can figure out what it became?   What would you use it as??    I’ll give you a hint.. it’s coming inside for a better use..

It became a BATH STATION

VOILA!!!!!!!

Here it is…. and this is how I’m using it now..

I found another planter not being used and decided to make it the facial cloth holder

I definitely think it’s better here than outside on  the deck rusting away.  I couldn’t use the cute cabby I did any longer because it was a tad too big  for the corner

I still needed something to accommodate the bath accessories, and this came in handy.

50cent Sunday

Today was a beautiful fall Sunday, so I figured I’d do some yard work..raking… no doubt. But when I got outside and saw this..I quickly changed my mind…Ugghhh…

Hard to believe summer is over and all my hard work looks like that…  Oh well, I’ll get back to the dreaded raking..  Then I remembered some overdue painting projects I needed to care of.  I used the can of paint purchased from a yard sale for $0.50 back in the summer to complete the overdue projects.

50 cents item

Time to pull out the items in dire need of a new look.

Item #1   – A badly rusted vintage iron ashtray, bought from a yard sale for $3.00

A rusted ashtray

Item #2  –   A rusty iron light fixture bought for $2.00 (the clay tray was bought a few years ago, but needed a new look also)

Rusty light fixture

Item #3  –  A vintage picture frame bought for $5.00

Vintage Frame

After gently sanding off the loose rust, brushing off the dirt and spider webs and removing the electrical wiring from the light fixture, I grabbed the rubber gloves and began painting.  The one can covered all the items perfectly and they really look great.

The ash tray became a much needed plant stand for a plant being brought in for the winter.  I used it in a corner in the foyer, after all the space could use a little something there.

The light fixture (flipped upside down) became a plant stand for another plant in the dining room… Nice huh?

The picture frame hasn’t found a home yet, but trust and know a place will be found.  It came too nice not to use.. (I’m thinking as a mirror – or part of a frame collage for a blank wall – will keep you posted)

I can’t believe the one can covered all this.. I even had enough for this old pepsi bottle carrier..

Now, it’s time to get some vintage pepsi bottles to go with it to use as a centerpiece  ( I have 2 – need 4 more)  then I’ll show you the centerpiece.

All in all, it’s been a productive Sunday (for 50 cents)…..  I’ll get to those leaves another time… after all – more are still falling..  sigh….
