If you’ve been following along, you know I’ve been on a brass kick. Shortly after I found the art deco style brass wall sconces, I stumbled on some brass trivets. One pair is another art deco inspired set and the … Continue reading

A PoP Day
It’s been so dreadfully hot these past few weeks and I’ve just been enjoying the pool at mom’s house… but I decided to finally get a few little items done. I called it my PoP day.. the Power of Paint.. I spend lots of time lounging in my Rest Haven and look around and see a few things that need sprucing up. Like the big planters.. They’ve been bruised over time and there’s a little vermin running around my yard knocking them over..(I feel like the Bill Murray in CaddyShack – boy do I want to get him)..
Of course hubby thought I should throw them away.. Me.. no way.. they’re still standing.. lol.. got a couple of cracks at the top – but all in all.. still worth keeping.. and for $6.00 they look like new
After I picked up this pretty cool pelican from Ross – I thought a touch of gold would do good in the garden
Then I found this old hat buried under some items in the garage and figured.. why not flip it and fill it..
Added a few bricks to cover the outer edge pallets and a few more plants around it
I think I like the upside down hat planter..
I’m still contemplating the iron hens&chick holder… I’d have to take all that apart..soooooo…you know how that goes.. (another day..lol). Small changes but nice impact for this space.
I love how the sun hits the gold and gives it a glam glow.. Then I had this clay pot.. the worn out look was looking too worn out..
So, for another $3.00 it got a new look
Now I can smile when I look around at these pots again . 🙂
That’s all I could do.. cause BABY!!!! It’s HOT OUT THERE!!!
Tah-tah
The Making of a Chair
I have to laugh at myself because here I am thinking “Oh gee- it would be wonderful to learn how to re-upholster- then I could do this as a side gig and create beautiful things -UHHH – YEA RIGHT!! HELLO!! and BABY BYE!! LOL This is one lesson learned and it only took one class to learn it – “SHYT AIN’T EASY!”… .. Ok..now that I got that off my chest.. moving right along.. Let me refresh your memory of my forever project…
Looks simple right… (boy did this fool me).. but..Ok.. I finally had a spare weekend to sand the base of the chair.. the wood was so scarred and needed some attention. My goal was to make it look like this
Dream on….dreamer… Alarm clock went off and Time to wake up….
I sanded the best I could (I’ve got bad hands..)
This is a closer view of the wood
could you believe all these bangs and bruises. on this beautiful wood… smh.. HOW???
Re-staining was my intent then I realized.. I’d have to do a lot more sanding… so I opted for a new look..
Why not go GLAM!
It was a bold move to do that, but after seeing it with the fabric.. I think it was the best choice. I really like the new color and it’s going to give this chair a sleeker look and will enhance the fabric. It’s almost done.. I promise it’ll be finished before Christmas.. chuckles.. sike… no it’s going to be finished next week.. Yayyyyy!! So.. stay tuned….
Tah-tah everyone…
Ugly April Challenge
Spring has sprung – yayyyy! Getting the yard together is almost finished then I can sit back and relax and enjoy chilling in my Rest Haven. I began to clean out my garage for two reasons: 1 – to find something that needed a makeover and 2- the 2nd annual 49-mile Yard Sale is coming. Everyone is getting excited about. You can learn more about the sale by visiting the website here. When Serena at Thrift Diving announced the Ugly April Challenge I was determined to find something to make over (without buying). If you live in the south -I believe you’ll find one of these on lots of porches or lurking around in backyards. Well I found mine and dug it out..talk about a much needed makeover.. Yikes.. this chair is totally yucky :-/
Yea pretty bad!! I also found this retro ashtray too! Completely rusted just like the chair.
These two pieces will come in handy, because when I’m out working in the yard, I like having a couple of squatting zones. instead of walking back to the gazebo for a quick rest. After sanding and sanding and sanding.. I got the surface as smooth as I can.. especially the seat part. I decided to use some colors that will brighten up the space. I used Rustoleum Pistacchio on the chair and Rustoleum Coral on the ashtray. They look so much better now! Retro Back To Life!!
Don’t you agree??
OooLaLa.. so refreshing with their new look! The metallic gold handle gave it a glamour touch
Glad Serena did the Ugly April Challenge, because these may have sat out another year…
On to the next!! Tah Tah Lovies!
Tray Chic!
Hey, Hey!! It’s your thrifty girl here.. First off, I want to say thank you to all those who voted for me in the Krylon Paint #miycontest. This past week- that was the only thing on my mind, and thanks to your help I took 3rdplace – whoohooo – My goal was 1st place, but better luck next time for me.
now that’s over with, I finally decided on the look I wanted for the 4th and final tray. Remember a few weeks back I started on the makeover of these four cranberry trays:
Here are three of the new looks
This Jonathan Adler tray retails for $150.00 – no offense- but REALLY??? smh…
It’s very similar to these Pier 1 trays that I got for $5.00 ea during a clearance sale years ago
and this Pottery Barn (looks for less) sells for $29.95
I fell in love with the glossy white, so I sprayed it with two coats of Rustoleum glossy white. I also added a special touch to it. Oh sure, I still have plenty of the wallpaper samples, but for this one I decided on shelf liner paper. It’s durable, wipeable, and beautiful.
Here is the finished look for the tray
Hand-painted the edges with Martha Stewart Metallic Gold for that extra Midas touch
The vintage gold-rim glasses are the perfect touch for this serving tray
So now it’s “Tres Chic”
Has anyone decided to do a tray makeover yet?? If so… please share…
