$2.00 Tuesday #8

Hey all!!!   If you’re just joining me.. I scored this week’s $2.00 item last week during my Goodwill Hunting.   It was the Martha Stewart wastebasket.  Yes, it had some bruises on it – but that’s ok.. it’s been transformed.. and I’m pleased with the finished product.  Remember it’s going in my office – so I wasn’t too meticulous about it.

Here’s the wastebasket before:           I know…  pretty bland.. right..(Martha Stewart huh???)

Well here’s your Vintage Girl’s version

Much better right!!!!   ( Please say yes, please say yes…    🙂    )

The teeny-tiny little bubbles occurred when I removed the tape..but again – it’s ok…  (besides they add texture )

Here it is inside my office…   It’s the perfect size…  and price   $2.00

It’s not Vintage – but it’s definitely Thrifty  –

I think even Martha would be pleased…  –

And as for the rest of the goodwill items.. here are some around the house..

Batteries added to the candles..  not bad for $2.50;  Pillows are washed and fluffed back up…$4.00

This pair of frames looks perfect with the print scarf draped across the wine cabinet

And my lovely ballerina niece looks adorable in this frame

Like I said.. it was a very good Goodwill Hunting  –  Well I’m off .. see you again real soon….

4poster Box Bed

Well today I set out to finish up Ms.  Koko’s bedroom bed..  Thank God the weather was beautiful because I really wanted to get these projects done…. So here we go.. gathering up all the items needed.. (not that it was alot) and we’re headed outside..  Here’s the box we started with

KoKo  is nearby probably wondering what’s going on….

If she guessed a new bed…. SHE’S RIGHT!!

Remember this one will go in our bedroom so I’m have to make it match the room… (don’t want a sore thumb sticking out).. I painted the box and started thinking what else.. hmmm, tap, tap, tap, hmmmm ahhhha I got it!  When you have a yard full of these why not use a few..

So I got four and a couple of sticks to decorate the box with – first let’s do something with the color..  a touch of gold paint did the trick..I used the sticks to create the letter “K”

The box is all dry – now it’s time to decorate.. I added more bling to the box with the crystals I got previously and from Cassie…   I’m very pleased with her 4poster box bed    🙂

It matches the color of the chair it sits next to… “you can see that rags to riches story about the lovely chair here.”

But the real test is to see if KoKo approves… let’s go get her…  “Ooohh KoKo – come here girl..”

Yes!!!  I think she definitely likes it!!

I guess all this hard work has made her sleepy….. time for her nap

Goodwill Hunting

Hey there… yes.. Goodwill Hunting- and not the movie… 🙂   .. I paid a visit to see if my $2.00 Tuesday Fairy has left a goodie for me under my pillow   …. (yes I remember the days of the toothfairy so now she’s my $2.00 Fairy – cause that’s how much we use to get for a tooth..)  Thank you Daddy (r.i.p) … OK  moving right along… but yes, she struck again.  After being well acclimated in my new office space the one thing I was missing and realized I needed was a wastebasket.  Brand new ones were overpriced.. I mean really you see my office.. I don’t think I need to make a fashion statement in there..  but at Target I found these.. Prices range from $9.99 to $14.99

Well I found this one at Goodwill  –  Yes it was $2.00  (starting the new year off right)

A Martha Stewart wastebasket… sure it’s got some bruises .. but that’s ok… It’s sturdy, not torn or falling apart..   but it’s not staying this way… (you know me – Spray Paint to the rescue)

But you know wandering eyes just couldn’t stop at this.. I had to keep looking – just to see.. (thank God hubby wasn’t with me.. because he’d say  ..”ok – you got what you’re looking for – let’s go” .  Well – like I said in the title of this post.. Goodwill Hunting.. I found all these items there too!!!

Battery-operated candles were definitely a steal of a deal.. for $0.75 for this one

and for the pair of the olive green trees were $2.50 (OH MY GOD!! they smell soooo good – I can’t wait to get batteries..)

d

Much needed picture frames..  the glass (for someone who’s got a birthday coming  🙂 – and a gardener can ALWAYS use watering can

goodwill7 goodwill9

The pillows… can’t pass those up.. for $2.00 each.. (besides.. didn’t Pantone say the new color this year is Orchid.. chuckles..)

goodwill10

All in all…. I will definitely say it was a good “GOODWILL Hunting”

My total spent …   $14.25  –

now it’s time for me to get busy working on that wastebasket.. I’ll see you soon to show you how I incorporate my new goodies around the house..

Tah-tah….

Thrifting the Day Away

I’ll take 70 degree weather for the first day of winter – any day.  It was the last day for me to catch any deal I could find at the local thrift store called the Lighthouse, because they’re not normally open on Saturdays.  Let me take a few minutes to describe this thrift store.  It’s no where near fancy but the volunteers who work there really do their best to make everything as presentable as possible and I applaud them and their efforts.  The items in the store are donated and they sell the items really cheap (sometimes too cheap).  They operate on a shoestring budget but somehow they manage to stay afloat to maintain the only thrift store in town.  Many people benefit from the items they sell (especially the clothes), but for people like me who look for home stuff – I really luck up..  just today I found these glasses there and see the price.. yes .10 cents

and these were only .50 cents –  so you know they came home with me.. and they cleaned up quite  nicely..

Well I found a vase and this plant stand… the two together were .75 cents.. (I said are you sure..?? and she said yes.. – I’m like “Wow”..)  I feel like I’m stealing the stuff for real.. but these are the two items..

The plant stand had a bit of chipping going on and the leg was a bit loose..

nothing that hot glue won’t fix to tighten it up..The vase (which was an average vase you find all over the place.. Unfortunately I didn’t take a picture of it before I did my “thang” with it.

I taped it up and began to give it a new look.. (spray paint to the rescue!)

tape came off and this is the new look

not bad huh??

Time to put it to use.. but first I grabbed a pine tree stem and some small rocks to fill the glass

Sprayed the plant stand and added it to the display

oh .. and I got this barely used candle from there for 10 cents and decided to spruce it up ..   the paper flower came from a bag of popourri and the ribbon was a salvaged piece from the holly jolly job being thrown away – a dab of hot glue and it’s spruced up

So you see how lucky I get at the lighthouse!  I hope they add Saturday to a normal open day real soon –  🙁

My Lighthouse deal

$2.00 Tuesday #6

Well it’s that day of the week and so far so good… Your Vintage Girl is at it again.  My luck may be running thin on these items, but I managed to get something.  I re-visited the Goodwill (went back to check on the bean bag) and it was gone  🙁  oh well … but I came across this item.   Here I go… thinking .. hmmmmm…  maybe? maybe not? maybe?   Yes!   I’ll take it…  Here is what I brought home… I know you’re wondering what is it?   It’s a  wall vase… I clearly see why the owner got rid of it…pretty boring (well, unless you like black & silver together)..

The price….$2.50  —  that’ll work…   🙂

and I noticed something interesting.. it was made in the USA…. ok.. even better.. because I did’t think I’d ever see that tag

goodwill2

Well, time to give this a refreshingly new look…..Paint is the first thing to do… I already have some latex paint left over from this project..

Much better – starting to look a bit more eye friendly  –  at least for me it is…   Time to fill the vase..  Since I’m going to use it outside, I’ll make a winter white theme.   Mother nature is my resource for those items.  Oh, and I also wanted to add a little decoration to it.. my feeble attempt failed.. but I did like the little silvery hearts (thanks to  Cassie- my neighbor-  gave a bag of them) so I decided to keep those on it.   (I’ve never been too crafty – but one day I’ll work on those skills).   I went outside to get a few tree branches and sprayed them silver (to match the little tip) and added them..

needs more nature to it..  these will work just fine

and here’s the finished product for my Winter White Arrangement

I think I really like this little arrangement….What’s your take???   Keep in mind – not bad for $2.50 “giggles”.
