4poster Box Bed

Well today I set out to finish up Ms.  Koko’s bedroom bed..  Thank God the weather was beautiful because I really wanted to get these projects done…. So here we go.. gathering up all the items needed.. (not that it was alot) and we’re headed outside..  Here’s the box we started with

KoKo  is nearby probably wondering what’s going on….

If she guessed a new bed…. SHE’S RIGHT!!

Remember this one will go in our bedroom so I’m have to make it match the room… (don’t want a sore thumb sticking out).. I painted the box and started thinking what else.. hmmm, tap, tap, tap, hmmmm ahhhha I got it!  When you have a yard full of these why not use a few..

So I got four and a couple of sticks to decorate the box with – first let’s do something with the color..  a touch of gold paint did the trick..I used the sticks to create the letter “K”

The box is all dry – now it’s time to decorate.. I added more bling to the box with the crystals I got previously and from Cassie…   I’m very pleased with her 4poster box bed    🙂

It matches the color of the chair it sits next to… “you can see that rags to riches story about the lovely chair here.”

But the real test is to see if KoKo approves… let’s go get her…  “Ooohh KoKo – come here girl..”

Yes!!!  I think she definitely likes it!!

I guess all this hard work has made her sleepy….. time for her nap

Box to Bed

It’s your Thrifty Girl here again to share with you a freebie re-purpose….Remember my visit to Costco a couple weeks ago..   You know the big boxes they provide to pack your items in.. well I’ve been saving the two I brought home… (can you say “hoarder”- because that’s what my son said when I told him to keep them)  chuckles…

I had a re-purpose in mind… Little Ms. KoKo needs a bed..  She’s been sleeping on a pillow on the floor (with covers of course)   but I figure I’d give her her very own bed….

Here’s the box before…(excuse the paint swatch.. just testing to see if paint would adhere to the box)

I chose a color that would match the family room sofa (since it’s going to be in that room)..  It’s a bronze hammered spray paint.  So..let the spraying begin!  Then I added a few little crystals (given to me from my neighbor/friend Cassie) for a touch of bling.  Afterwards,  I covered her pillow in a hot pink fleece fabric (scraps given to me from my one of my besties – Sylvia  – our local seamstress).     Here is my finished product of KoKo’s bed.

Pretty Cool – huh?

The paint on the box almost has a suede effect

Here comes Ms. Koko to check out her new crib..

By George – I think she likes it!!!

Her box looks pretty cool here in the family room..

A freebie upscale  to satisfy the little lady

Freebies are so much better….   now I’ve got to get busy with the other box… which is going in my bedroom.. So – in my Terminator voice – “I’ll be back ”    🙂

Goodwill Hunting

Hey there… yes.. Goodwill Hunting- and not the movie… 🙂   .. I paid a visit to see if my $2.00 Tuesday Fairy has left a goodie for me under my pillow   …. (yes I remember the days of the toothfairy so now she’s my $2.00 Fairy – cause that’s how much we use to get for a tooth..)  Thank you Daddy (r.i.p) … OK  moving right along… but yes, she struck again.  After being well acclimated in my new office space the one thing I was missing and realized I needed was a wastebasket.  Brand new ones were overpriced.. I mean really you see my office.. I don’t think I need to make a fashion statement in there..  but at Target I found these.. Prices range from $9.99 to $14.99

Well I found this one at Goodwill  –  Yes it was $2.00  (starting the new year off right)

A Martha Stewart wastebasket… sure it’s got some bruises .. but that’s ok… It’s sturdy, not torn or falling apart..   but it’s not staying this way… (you know me – Spray Paint to the rescue)

But you know wandering eyes just couldn’t stop at this.. I had to keep looking – just to see.. (thank God hubby wasn’t with me.. because he’d say  ..”ok – you got what you’re looking for – let’s go” .  Well – like I said in the title of this post.. Goodwill Hunting.. I found all these items there too!!!

Battery-operated candles were definitely a steal of a deal.. for $0.75 for this one

and for the pair of the olive green trees were $2.50 (OH MY GOD!! they smell soooo good – I can’t wait to get batteries..)

d

Much needed picture frames..  the glass (for someone who’s got a birthday coming  🙂 – and a gardener can ALWAYS use watering can

goodwill7 goodwill9

The pillows… can’t pass those up.. for $2.00 each.. (besides.. didn’t Pantone say the new color this year is Orchid.. chuckles..)

goodwill10

All in all…. I will definitely say it was a good “GOODWILL Hunting”

My total spent …   $14.25  –

now it’s time for me to get busy working on that wastebasket.. I’ll see you soon to show you how I incorporate my new goodies around the house..

Tah-tah….

Darling Little Boxes

If you’re like me.. I tend to carry a few Advils in my purse.. cause I never know who’s gonna give me a headache.. chuckles.   Well this post is to show you how to carry them in style.. Vintage Style – that is…  Ode to the loveable pill box…  I just adore carrying this little darling in my purse.. and when someone needs a pill and they see me pull that classy little box out my purse… Ohhhh how excited they get when they see it..  🙂  Saying little compliments like “aren’t you all fancy-smancy with the pills..”  and my simple response is  (in my playfully coy tongue)  … “Don’t hate” – smile followed by….chuckles….   Let me show you my darling little boxes – one is a pill box and the other – unbelievable – but guess what..  A contact lens case… (Those Vintage ladies had the best accessories).  Pill boxes and lens cases nowadays are just hard plastic with no class  or finesse about them..  smh.. oh well .. I got mine and I’m happy about that..

Aren’t they darling?  All jeweled out looking fancy-smancy.. and take a look inside…. fully equipped for the necessary items

Of course there’s a mirror inside the case to use when taking out the lens    They thought of everything.

Now, say I’m laying in bed and need my pills, well this little beauty sits on my nightstand..

When you open the case the pills are stored inside the lid bottom with a little cover marked “pills”.  Also, you notice there’s no glass to take the pill …well-  no need because this is a “two-in-one”.. a pill box and a cup… (I know you’re trying to figure it out.. but look close….. it rises…

How neat is that…. !!!!

Then collapses back down when you’re all done

Who’d ever thought that taking pills and removing contact lens could be so classy….It’s just little things like this that makes me appreciate the finer things in life   🙂  and it’s simply- as always…… VivaLaVintage!!!      Ciao!

ps…. If you care to purchase your little “touch of class” pill box, let me know.. I’m sure Pieces of Time can accommodate your desire..

For the Love of Gloves

Where are they???    Where are they?????   If those words sound all too familiar when looking for your gloves then this post is definitely a must read..   🙂

The feel of winter has finally arrived…. just when I thought I was going to get away with wearing a coat, hat, gloves, scarf … all  the things to bundle up to keep warm.  Well, I’ve managed to keep myself pretty organized with all the wintry items to have easy access to.  One particular  item I’d like to showcase in this post is the forgotten Glove Box.  Did you know about these?????     I sure didn’t….

It never failed, every year, I’d have to go scrounging around looking for my gloves.. Well a few years ago I decided to purchase of this little box to keep my gloves.. I didn’t know such an item existed until I started perusing antique stores for Victorian items..   Then I found this one made of milk glass.. It was perfect!!  I loved how it was designed..very intricately detailed..

My gloves fit perfectly tucked inside – and at the end of each winter season.. I make sure I tuck them back inside so I can find them again

This box hold three pairs of gloves, but if you’re like me.. I like having several different pairs..  So off I went hunting for another one.. and came across another lovely one..

This one is made of wood covered in embossed paper .. Equally as lovely as the first.  Every year I know exactly where my gloves are..

Having lovely boxes like these really helps keep me organized

So just in case you’re like me… getting one of these boxes just might help you too!
