Not So Square Vase

I spotted this vase during a thrift store visit for $3.99.  Just a plain, simple vase.. back in the day when something was plain it was considered a “square”.   I thought it was cute..I didn’t have a square vase so I figured why not..

Being cooped up inside because of the weather has made your thrifty girl go a little paint crazy and decided to snazz it up a bit..  First let’s tape it up…

It’s going in my dining room so I chose a copper paint… Paint is all done and it’s dry..  and  I added some crystals and fresh flowers and “VOILA!!!!”

A closer look….

The copper blends well with the artwork above it…

Now this vase isn’t so square after all….  (and to think I had it for sale at the yard sale.. I’m so glad it didn’t sell because I wouldn’t have this lovely vase)

The Purple Heart

It’s hard to believe how time is flying – it’s already “Stupid Cupid” time and your Vintage Girl is just a “Fool in Love”.   I bet when you read the title you probably thought of a high military honor.  The Purple Heart I’m referring to is the valentine heart your thrifty girl created using scrap fabric, ribbon, tassel and vintage jewelry to create a scented hanging sachet.  Yes, I strayed away from the traditional red  (shoot me with a bow&arrow), but I have a passion for purple.  Velvet purple at that!

It’s so simple to create.   Cut out a pattern of a heart,  sew and leave a little opening to stuff with a mixture of scented crystals and pillow stuffing. When stitching sachet add ribbon hanger.   Attach jewelry using hot glue and hand stitch the tassel on.   Forgive me for not taking step-by-step photos,  (I know I should have) but it was so simple I just figured I’d type  them and show you the finished product.

This little darling not only looks lovely, but smells just as wonderful!   The hanger is a scrap piece of ribbon left over from other projects.

The vintage pendant (which is actually an earring) was hot glued on

The tassel was clipped from a long fringe and attached with a quick hand-stitch

See how welcoming lovely it looks hanging on the door waiting to greet your loved ones who holds the key to your heart as they enter.

Another simply creative idea made from ” LOVE”

Are you ready to make one for your “HEARTS” DESIRE?

4poster Box Bed

Well today I set out to finish up Ms.  Koko’s bedroom bed..  Thank God the weather was beautiful because I really wanted to get these projects done…. So here we go.. gathering up all the items needed.. (not that it was alot) and we’re headed outside..  Here’s the box we started with

KoKo  is nearby probably wondering what’s going on….

If she guessed a new bed…. SHE’S RIGHT!!

Remember this one will go in our bedroom so I’m have to make it match the room… (don’t want a sore thumb sticking out).. I painted the box and started thinking what else.. hmmm, tap, tap, tap, hmmmm ahhhha I got it!  When you have a yard full of these why not use a few..

So I got four and a couple of sticks to decorate the box with – first let’s do something with the color..  a touch of gold paint did the trick..I used the sticks to create the letter “K”

The box is all dry – now it’s time to decorate.. I added more bling to the box with the crystals I got previously and from Cassie…   I’m very pleased with her 4poster box bed    🙂

It matches the color of the chair it sits next to… “you can see that rags to riches story about the lovely chair here.”

But the real test is to see if KoKo approves… let’s go get her…  “Ooohh KoKo – come here girl..”

Yes!!!  I think she definitely likes it!!

I guess all this hard work has made her sleepy….. time for her nap

Box to Bed

It’s your Thrifty Girl here again to share with you a freebie re-purpose….Remember my visit to Costco a couple weeks ago..   You know the big boxes they provide to pack your items in.. well I’ve been saving the two I brought home… (can you say “hoarder”- because that’s what my son said when I told him to keep them)  chuckles…

I had a re-purpose in mind… Little Ms. KoKo needs a bed..  She’s been sleeping on a pillow on the floor (with covers of course)   but I figure I’d give her her very own bed….

Here’s the box before…(excuse the paint swatch.. just testing to see if paint would adhere to the box)

I chose a color that would match the family room sofa (since it’s going to be in that room)..  It’s a bronze hammered spray paint.  So..let the spraying begin!  Then I added a few little crystals (given to me from my neighbor/friend Cassie) for a touch of bling.  Afterwards,  I covered her pillow in a hot pink fleece fabric (scraps given to me from my one of my besties – Sylvia  – our local seamstress).     Here is my finished product of KoKo’s bed.

Pretty Cool – huh?

The paint on the box almost has a suede effect

Here comes Ms. Koko to check out her new crib..

By George – I think she likes it!!!

Her box looks pretty cool here in the family room..

A freebie upscale  to satisfy the little lady

Freebies are so much better….   now I’ve got to get busy with the other box… which is going in my bedroom.. So – in my Terminator voice – “I’ll be back ”    🙂

$2.00 Tuesday #4

For a moment I was worried about not finding something for my fun post.  This $2.00 Tuesday is really pretty cool.  The main objective is that I do not to go crazy looking for things and also make sure I need or could use it.  Well, so far so good..  If you’re just joining me..Welcome… you can see my other $2.00 posts here, here, and here.   Today’s goodie came from the thrift store here in Whitmire, again.  I remember seeing it when I was there getting the plant hangers.  So, I decided to go back to inquire about it…. and sure enough.. it was $2.00…LOL.. I know you’re probably thinking.. “Is she for real – how could it be -that she’s finding this stuff“,  but I kid you not.. it sure was $2.00 (and no haggling..)..

A HAT RACK….. How Cool is That!!!     It was hanging on the wall with some baskets on it…  I simply asked.. is that for sale and she replied – looking over her glasses with her hand on her hip…. “Honey, everything in here is for sale 🙂  …and it was $2.00 (with the baskets.. which I did’t take – but something tells me I should have – because you never know when you’ll need a basket..)  oh well…

Well, it was was in perfect condition (except for the dust) which is a easy fix.  But I just didn’t want to keep it in the natural state.  I had a tiny bit of paint left over and decided to spruce it up.. Besides it was going to hang in the laundry area so the color would blend with the curtains.  I used the Avocado left over from this project

That’s what it needed for a new look

Well let’s get it inside to put it to use..  Every time I have to walk Ms. Koko, it never fails, I forget where I left her leash and have to go looking for it and my cap… well no more.. they have their place..

I do believe I scored on this one too!!!!

As always…IT’S VivaLaVintage – Baby!  Like I said.. this is getting kind of fun…  See you next Tuesday..(I hope)
